Does it have the 4 button shift control switch ?
Transfer case model NVG 246 RPO NP8 transfer case ?
Do any light's flash on the switch when changing from any position too another ?
The NVG 246 EAU transfer case features a 4 button shift control switch located on the instrument panel. When the ignition key is in the RUN position, the transfer case shift control module monitors the transfer case shift control switch to determine if the driver desires a new mode/range position. At a single press of the transfer case shift control switch, the lamp of the new desired position will begin flashing to inform the driver that the transfer case shift control module has received the request for a new mode/range position. The lamp will continue to flash until all shifting criteria has been met and the new mode/range position has been reached, or has been engaged. Once the new mode/range position is fully active, the switch indicator lamp for the new position will remain ON constantly.
During normal driving situations, the transfer case can operate in the Auto 4WD mode. In the Auto 4WD mode, the transfer case shift control module monitors rear wheel slip speed, based on the inputs from both the front and rear propshaft speed sensors. When the vehicle experiences a rear wheel slip condition, the transfer case shift control module sends a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal to an electronic motor, which is the transfer case encoder motor. This motor rotates the transfer case control actuator lever shaft, applying a clutch pack. This clutch pack is designed to deliver a variable amount of torque, normally delivered to the rear wheels, and transfers it to the front wheels. Torque is ramped up to the front wheels until the front propshaft speed sensor matches that of the rear propshaft speed sensor. Torque is ramped down to the front wheels. The process would repeat if rear wheel slip is detected again.
Taking your vehicle to a qualified repair shop an having the 4x4 control module checked for code's would be your best bet to solve your problem .

How To Override Stuck 4WD On A GMC Vehicle, Transfer CaseControl ... My 07 GMC Yukon is stuck in 4 wheel drive low, can I do this same process on it? .... has been changed, the module was reset, and the actuator were all replaced. ... is being slughish when i start off from red light or stop sign but after ...
you can switch into and out of the auto or 4 high modes while moving.
If you want to use 4 low you must stop and place your transmission in neutral. While stopped, turn the switch to 4 low. To get out of 4 low, again stop and in neutral switch back to desired mode. DO NOT SWITCH TO 4 LOW WHILE MOVING!
The selector drive mtor mounted on the transfer case had alot of problems with water getting into the circuit board and also the mtoro drive getting stuck. At the dealership I have replaced hundreds of these over the years.
A blinking service 4x4 light would indicate there are DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes set . Need a professional scanner to pull these codes , not autozone or advance etc.... How many buttons on the shift selector ? Four or three - this would tell me which transfer case it has an capabilities .
The NVG 263 transfer case features a three button shift control switch located on the instrument panel.
The NVG 236/246 transfer case features a 4 button shift control switch located on the instrument panel
Both systems have a electronic control module .
SERVICE 4WD Indicator
The SERVICE 4WD message is displayed on the driver information center and is an integral part of the cluster and cannot be serviced separately. This message is used to inform the driver of the vehicle of malfunctions within the automatic transfer case (ATC) system. The SERVICE 4WD message is controlled by the transfer case shift control module via a Class 2 message.
Upon seeing this message it is intended for the driver of the vehicle to take his vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has the knowledge an diagnostic equipment to trouble shoot the problem .
These systems can set many codes an without knowing which or if any are set at all you could end up replacing parts an still not fix the problem .

have you checked if the vacuum actuator is working? this actuator would be found underneath your battery. you will have to take of the battery tray to get to the actuator. if you can find a way to connect the battery, once you've taken off the battery tray and start the vehicle to test the functions on the 4WD switch that would be very helpful. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL AND MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO WAY THE BATTERY WILL TOUCH THE FAN OR BELT WHEN DOING THIS!! Once you've engaged the 4HI or 4LO, the actuator should be sucked in. when you've set the 2HI, the actuator should be out, to the normal position. Also check to see if the vacuum line is good, most wear with time and tear in other places. hope this helped you. Is your 4WD switch blinking or does it stay on when you change the settings? NOTE that the pic shows the actuator in the normal (out) 2HI position. see pic below to see what the actuator looks like :
If its not engaging into 4 WD the vaccum actulator is more than likely stuck. The actulator is located on the front of the axle next to the the front gear hub it will have a plastic cover over it. Unbolt the two 10mm bolts that hold the cover on and spray down with WD-40, also pull back the rubber cover thats on the actulator staff and spray it. You might have to hit the staff a few times to get it to move just make sure its in 4WD. I had the same problem, that part is exposed to alot of water, snow, salt and so on. Or you could just replace it but its cheaper to spray it down with WD-40
