There is coolant spraying out the back of the motor, the stream is perfectly round and about as big around as a nickle. Is their a smaller frost plug in the back of the 4.0l v6 engines?

inspect the heater hoses and pipes at the back of the motor. pressure test the system and inspect the intake manifold at the rear of the motor as well as the frost plugs. when you find the leak then you can fix it.
if the items that you checked are not leaking then you should check the frost plugs in the block and heads.then have the headgaskets checked for leaks this is a big problem on these 4.6 motors,if they are leaking have a shop do the repairs as its not a likable or simple job.even alot of techs at the dealers and shop stay away from them.
Could be intake gaskets, Use a rad. cap/rad. pressure tester, dont pressurize system higher than the rad cap is rated for(psi). You might find the leak that way.
The starer motor should be at the back of the engine. Look around the rear part of the engine and you will find it. It will have a big round cylinder body and a smaller cylinder body on top of it.....Happy hunting. Let me know how you get on.
On the back side of your motor... On top there is a aluminum coolant hose that has a nylon fitting in it. Make sure it isnt weaping. It will run down the back of your block. The other thing it may be is a frost plug behind your transmission bell housing. This would require pulling the transmission to replace the plug, Check the hose first. Good luck
Hello, yes over time freeze plugs can corrode over time and start to leak, I am currently building up a motor right now and when I removed the frost plugs they were starting to get thin from corrosion.
fist check your heater hoses that connect to the heater core as one of them may have a small pin hole in it and be expanding when it gets hot spraying coolant over behind the transmission.
the other two possabilities that come to mind are that a head gasket could be leaking at the back of the engine, or t could be a frost plug on the back side of the engine.
1) to check the heater hoses let the truck get warmed up and then try wiggleing the heater hoses by the heater core to see if they are leaking.
2) to check the head gaskets look around the back of the engine and see if you can see a stain that is white or rust color like a trail that water would leave if it was flowing,
3) if the coolant appears to be only coming out between the engine and the transmission then it is most likely a frost plug.
