Because of the plastic gear on the odometer shaft is some teeth . You'll have to replace the entire speedometer . Or take the vehicle to a shop that does those types of repairs. I went to the junkyard and bought the entire instrument cluster for under 50.00$ . Did it myself. Tedious job don't be in a rush could break something else. .
I'm going with James. Since there is a cable, there are plastic gears in the cluster. They break or the pins holding them come out. The speedo can work and odometer not.
Give this company a shout http://southernelectronics.com/
Answering for speedo works but odmeter is dead. well the cable can't fix one, then skip the other, impossible.
that is simple, needed a drawing of the insides? see photo below.
there is no shop that does speedo guts repairs, sure non suzuki cars, but not suzuki. sorry,,,, (ask the top shop in LA, "no")
if the speedo works, and odemeter is jammed, then it is just that part that is jammped.
usually the needle jams first. not odometer.
buy a used working speedo, but watch out, (ive done many)
the speedos have many types. and the rear connector count and pin counts must match. or the bottom suzuki part number.
got 4 door, got 4wd? got M/T or auto transmission, (oops not said)
the worm on the left turns the worm gear on the right. and the odometer pins,

suzuki still sells some clusters, but are like $1000 eash.
is that an option, i bet not.
so that leaves fleabay.
tell what car you have full spec, door,s, transmission, 2wd, 4wd
and i can get you the real part number so finding it is 10x more easy.
the speedo is one of the most difficult parts to fix.
i mix parts between them (insides) because i have the parts lists and can do that.
tell more, get more.....????
if both are dead, why not say both are dead. and if the cable spins, rear tires off ground at head end, of cable. the cables is ok. you can even feel it spin
and put pressure with fingers on the cable. to make sure it don't slip.
you can even spin the one rear tire, off ground, causing (keys in pocket) and drive shaft spins, so will the cable. even in neutral. (transfer case or A/T or M/t BOX) ALL THIS TESTS THE CABLE.
IF THE CABLE SPINS, THE HEAD IS BAD.
IF THE HEAD IS BAD, say so, and can help you find the correct one,. (used heads)
if the speedo head is bad. ask for help
I have a full parts list for this head and have experience rebuilding them from 3 bad heads to 1 good head, suzuki sells some of the internals, (fact) but when you see the $500 price, that fun ends.
fast. so ask. done many, i have.
Suzuki is bankrupt here and seems the parts prices, match the level of failure.
sad, but true it seems. I'd sell the dog.
I sold all 4 of mine. just for that. reason.
on this car a worm gear drives the odometer. but the speedo is magnetically coupled. need the photos above make all this clear....
to find a good used had, match the rear connector count and each connectors pin count. SUzuki has many heads, huge versions. for MPH or KPH, or transmission. huge ! versions.
the simple way is to read the bottom of head sticker part number, that always works.
this is my first review on this head on fixya.... and last. unless responded to.
need more logic.
if both odometer and speedo fail. (dead)
the cable snapped
the cable ends strippped
or the plastic trans shaft plastic gears , stripped, all these failures are super easy, mechanics 101 checks, and simple tests or observations.
here, ill give one.
1: i pull head. (dead head total)
2: i jack up left rear tire.
and main box in neutral, and 4x4 in 2H gear.(on mine only the transfer case must spin, 4wd, 2wd is other matter)
3: i spin this one free tire, the prop shaft spins and so must the speedo cable up top, if not, bingo. right?
