Is there a power on the Master Switch at all?

  • 6 more comments
  • Vladimir Frolov May 13, 2015

Look, that's impossible. If there's a power on the Master it comes to every switch, right (and you've said yes, it's powered). Now that power is applied to the motor, right? Which you're saying is not working?

That's what I'm saying I checked all connections with a voltage meter and all the lines. Could it be a lock out cause from another switch?

  • Vladimir Frolov May 13, 2015

Todd. One more time. Power IS on the motor, right? Motor is not spinning, right? What switch then you're talking?

  • Vladimir Frolov May 13, 2015

The only switch that I am aware of (on automatic and excluding all immobilizers) is a starter relay switch preventing starter to run if the gear is not on P or N. But this is not related to any of your problems: when ignition key is in ON everything is supposed to be powered.

I have tried it with the key in the on position cranked and not cranked

  • Vladimir Frolov May 13, 2015

That's understood. However if you're saying that there's a power on each switch (glass control), there's a power on control relays and still don't work - that's a miracle.

  • Vladimir Frolov May 13, 2015

Locate each fuse and check with voltmeter that any and each has a power with a control lamp, not voltmeter.

    With a lamp!

Where is the window fuse 2000 Toyota Camry

There is a circuit breaker. They rarely go bad. If one window works it is good. If the drivers window is not working. It could be the window motor/regulator or the master switch, since this is the window that is worked the most.

Power windows not working. Is it a fuse

didnt specify vehicle and or if other switches work or dont -- so heres a generic answer, if none of the windows are working will need to check the fuses and relays if some of the windows / window switches then need to check the power-- wiring connections -- and switches

Windows will not go down

All the windows are powered by one circuit breaker( on the fuse panel, capped with a metal housing. 1/4 inch wide X 3/4 inch long). I've never had to change one. If any window goes down, The window that doesn't has a bad motor or regulator. If none go down, most likely a bad master switch/ Drivers switch.

Rear windows won't go down

You also have Circuit Breakers for your windows, Or your Master Switch ,You can Test the Driver Control Switch or the rear switches by removing the Switches and using the connector Plug and a Jump wire try jumping accross the wires,if they go up or down you could have a Bad Switch,if nothing moves more than likely your Window Motor is bad. BUT first CHECK your Circuit Breakers ,It could be Labeled as accessery Relay or circuit Breaker.

99 corolla passenger window wont roll up

Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine. Operate the windows from the master control switch. If none of the windows work, check the main fuse or breaker for the whole power window circuit. If only one of the windows is inoperative, go to Step 3.

  • 2 Check the main circuit relay using a test light. If voltage is coming out of the relay, there is an open or short at the wire feeding power to the other switches. If no voltage is coming out of the relay, use the test light to make sure voltage is reaching the relay. If voltage is reaching the relay, replace it. If there is no voltage reaching the relay, there is an open or short at the wire between the relay and the main fuse.
  • 3 Check the circuit fuse or breaker at the inoperative window. If the fuse or breaker is okay, go to the next step. If you can hear a humming sound as you press the switch but the window does not operate, either the motor is bad or its gearbox may have broken teeth. Go to Step 7.
  • 4 Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine. Using a multimeter, check the master control lockout switch for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the lockout switch. With some vehicle models, problems at the lockout switch can cause both rear windows to fail.
  • 5 Try the switch at the inoperative window and check for continuity using a voltmeter. If there is no continuity, replace the switch.
  • 6 Check for voltage at the switch using a test light. If voltage is not reaching the switch, there is an open or short between the incoming wire and the fuse or breaker for that circuit power window.
  • 7 Take off the trim panel from the inoperative window. Check for voltage at the motor with a test light while pressing the switch. If there is no voltage, there is a short or open at the wire between the switch and the motor. If the circuit is equipped with a relay, test for voltage reaching and coming out the relay. Make sure the relay is working properly. If voltage is reaching the motor, go to the next step.
  • 8 Detach the window from the regulator and inspect the regulator mechanism by moving the window up and down by hand. Make sure nothing restrains the mechanism. Also, inspect the motor gearbox. Replace any parts as necessary.

Replaced window switch on 02 prizm and now none of the windows work nor the sunroof. any ideas?

You could have gotten a bad switch. Try plugging the old one back in and see if it works. Windows get their power from a circuit breaker. These rarely go bad.

All power windows and sunroof will not budge suddenly on neither the drivers master switch or any of the door window switches. Power locks DO work though. I replaced all 10 and 15 amp fuses in fuse box,...

Window fuse's and relay's may be up under driver or passenger side dash or behind glove box, under the hood and even under the seats, and finally on the ends of the dash. All passenger power windows and locks are controlled thru and get power from the master control switch on the drivers door.

Drivers door window gets used the most so it could be the motor, window switch, relay or fuse.
Could also be a broken wire in the rubber boot going from the door to the body. You will have to eliminate each till you find the culprit. Check that all switches return to neutral when released.
The motor and the relay are the most likely to cause this problem. Try swapping the relay with a working window relay. If it still doesn't work, remove the door panel and remove the window motor.
Turn the motor shaft in both directions by hand several turns. Then plug the motor in and see if the switch will now run the motor. Sometimes that's all it takes to get it working again. I have had to do this with brand new motors. If voltage is not present at the motor connector, either a bad switch or a broken wire exists. Make sure to check for voltage coming to that windows switch. Actually, GM use's a circuit breaker type relay for each window and one fuse for all the circuit breakers.

    Try this....
Open the door, turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine and everything that makes noise is off. Lean down placing your ears close to the bottom center of the door or at the speaker grill. Press the window switch UP and DOWN. Listen for the window motor. If heard the drive is damaged. If not heard, turn key off and locate and replace the relay with one of the other window relays. Check window again. If it works now, get a new relay. More often than not, removing the motor and turning it by hand will get it working good as new. I have had to do that with Brand New motors! So try it.
If all has failed, with the door panel still off, check for voltage at the motor connector when pushing the window switch. No voltage means its the switch, especially if its a auto down or up switch.

Check the master window control panel on the driver's door. There is probably a lockout switch. It may have a window outline on one end and the same outline with an "X" over it on the other. Press the outline without the "X" and all your windows should work again. As silly as that sounds, a lot people hit that switch without knowing it. Also, if that switch(lockout) is faulty, none of the windows will work. That happens A LOT!!
