You need 9.8 quarts of Dexron III or later, for a dry fill. A wet service fill will be less, about 6-7 quarts. Autozone or any other auto spares outlet will have it.
Open the back door. On the RH side there is a round button type handle. Pull the handle. The nut cover for the spare tire will open. Use the tire lug wrench to loosen the nut substantially. Then push up on the frame and swing the nut and threaded lock assy out of the retaining area of the spare tire frame. Then slide the tire out for use.
First...... remove spare wheel cover..2 small plastic srewheads on the bottom of tire. open and pull gently on the tire cover Second... Remove wheel nuts and there is your spare tire!
It sounds like you have some loose lugnuts. Luckily, Your car should have all the tools to fix this right next to the spare tire. To see for sure, jack up that side of the car, following the instructions on stickers near the spare tire or in the owners manual. You will need to jack up that corner of the car, and use the lugnut wrench to tighten those nuts as tight as you can get them with that little thing. If this was the problem, you need to then drive the car to the nearest tire repair store and have them tighten those down for you. If you have a torque wrench, tighten them to 85 ft/lbs.
the montero spare cover is a two pc cover the keepers go into the pc that is mounted under the tire, before you try to put the cover on look at the other pc and see where the slots are,to make it easier to install get the tire and the cover soaked with water so it can slide easier, put the retainers into the slots and turn 90 degrees-good luck
Bad or dirty valve stem pressure sensor. You can reset the sensor by disconnecting Battery and then wait 90 secs and reconnect. that will set computer to reset. If the valve sensor still may be dirty or gone bad. in that case the sensor will need to be replaced.
Assuming your spare is underneath & not on the tail gate; do the following: remove the plate on top of your rear bumper & you will see a steel nut. Take your spare tire wrench or a socket & rachet & unscrew that baby until you feel that tire on your foot!
