You must have an egr valve for this engine to work.Sounds like you are getting oil blow-by combustion causing carbon in the exhaust which may do due to a faulty crankcase ventilation valve, bad piston rings, etc. Whatever the cause, oil combustion produces the carbon, and you will need to fix that.
Sorry I dont have a pic. for you. But here are instructions. The EGR valve is located at the top right of the engine next to the throttle body. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Except Linear EGR Valve
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the engine. If equipped, unplug the valve electrical connection. Remove the EGR valve vacuum tube from the valve. Remove the EGR bolts and/or nuts and remove the EGR valve and gasket. To install: Install a new gasket to the EGR valve and install the EGR valve to the manifold. Install the nuts and/or bolts. Tighten the bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) and the nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). Connect the vacuum tube to the EGR valve. If equipped, attach the valve electrical connection. Install the air cleaner and connect the negative battery cable. Linear EGR Valve Disconnect the negative battery cable. Note the position of the EGR valve prior to removal. Do not rotate the valve 180?. Unplug the valve electrical connection.. Unfasten the valve retainers, then remove the valve and the gasket.
To install: Clean all gasket residue from the gasket mating surfaces. Install a new gasket and the valve. Install the valve retainers. On 1994-97 2.2L engines and 1994-95 4.3L engines, tighten the valve retainers to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm). On 1998-99 2.2L models, tighten the retainers to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm). On 1996-99 4.3L models, tighten the retainers on the first pass to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) and on the final pass to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Attach the valve electrical connections and connect the negative battery cable.
on a v-6 it should be right under the throttle body and held in with 2 bolts. A 10mm swivel socket is all you need to remove it. They make a gasket with a screen to help prevent carbon chunks from getting into the valve. I would highly recommend getting this gasket. It isn't cheap but will save you in the long run.
It's an egr valve problem (exhaust gas return) egr position sensor.
Take off the egr valve and turn it over and see if there is carbon build up in the ports, if there is clean it out with a pipe cleaner and a little carbon cleaner, just spray a little into the ports and clean it out. If that doesn't cure the problem, then either the sensor needs replacing, and or the egr valve.
Purchase new egr valve gasket with screen on it. The motor as it get older produces more carbon it then begins to break off and when the valve opens it get caught in there. i have cleaned mine several times and finally found the gasket at napa for around 22 bucks. All you need it 10mm wrech and 10mm socket with ext. takes around 10 min to do.
You need new egr valve gasket with a screen on it. It will block carbon from clogging it causing rough idle. Need 10mm wrech and socket set. I found the part at napa for around 22 bucks. I have had my 93 4x4 Jimmy for 10 yrs it now has 235000 on it and still going.
My 94 Jimmy had similar problems, until the dirty EGR valve was replaced. We tried a million things, first. But the improvement with the new EGR valve has HUGE.
It sounds like you need a tune up, Spark plugs and wire and cap and rotor, fuel filter and clean the EGR Valve. I'ld say the EGR valve is dirty with carbon which is common in the 95 JIMMY"S and BLAZER"S which also means the throttle body needs to be sprayed down with throttle body cleaner, not carb cleaner since it's to corrosive to the gasket on the throttle body. Keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have and good luck friend.
