2000 Subaru Impreza Outback service manual calls for 1.0 mm to 1.1 mm or .039 in. to .044 in. Most spark plugs at any auto store should be pre-gapped, but double checking never hurt. Make sure to apply a very light coat to the spark plug threads and torque them to 15 ft-lbs +/- 2 ft-lbs. Good luck.
Do you still have the owners manual? You might be able to get it at http://my.subaru.com
I have an '02 WRX and the manual says to rotate the back left to front right, and back right to front left. But, make sure you are not using uni-directional tires if you do that! :-)
try disconnecting the + positive terminal for a few minutes and see if it goes out most likely the 02 sensor needs replacing ...however low fluid levels may also contribute to this oil, brake fluid etc.
