The air temperature blend door is broken, however I believe it is stuck in a position that restricts hot air from coming in when I have my heat on, last summer my ac worked fine and throuout the winter my heater did not. Beginning of this summer my ac was working fine but slowly stopped working when my engine would be running at lower rpm, ie at stop lights, when yielding, in park. It's progressively gotten worse. But now my ac only seems to blow cold air when I'm at highway speeds (80km/hr to 110km/hr) and it's very cold air. So today I had a day off and I bought a ac recharge kit, and when my vehicle was off the lo service line read 170 psi so I didn't add any fluid when I started my vehicle the psi went down to 100 and was only blowing hot air, so I still didn't add fluid. I don't have the tools to check the high service valve. Do I need to drain fluid, or add. If I have to drain the system how would I do so? Or would my compressor just be on the fritz?
It could be just the motor for the blend door. Under the dash, on the drivers side. Center console. You also have to much freon in it now. Off,should read around 100 PSI. Running should be around 40 PSI on an 80 degree day, 55 PSI on 100 degree day. As far as getting colder as you go down the road. Turn on the A/C, check and see if the high speed fans come on. Most likely they aren't on. Check fuses and relays.
First thing is to take it to an accredited ac service centre as you don't add fluid --only gas
it is added to the suction line of the compressor until the operating pressure is reached
by doing it yourself there is a distinct possibility that you will damage the compressor, over fill the system or do other costly damage
if you think you need extra gas then you have a gas leak which has to be repaired as a properly operating system will operate forever on the gas unless there is a mechanical failure or leak
fix the other problems first and then have the system checked.
SOURCE: AC is blowing out HOT air... How to get to the Blend Door to check it?
No, you just need to fill freon gas.
SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier A/C does not work
Your compressor's shaft seal is the most likely culprit. If you can find someone to replace the shaft seal and body gaskets in your compressor, you should be fine. Cavaliers use a V5 compressor, an excellent but leak-prone when unused.
SOURCE: Air Conditioner works intermittently
It could be your low pressure cycle switch is going bad. Check the connection to the switch and it's is located on the A/C Accumulator. The other thing to check is the A/C relay and that is located in the glove box. There is a panel in the glove box that say's relay, there is three relays in there and one of the out side relay's out of the three is the A/C. can not remember which one it is. The middle relay is the fuel pump and the other one is the third break light. Switch the two out side relays and see if your A/C get's better. the other thing too is if the R134a is just a little low, and needs to be topped off. Good luck and hope this helps. if your going to try to recharge the A/C system your self, keep in mind not to over charge.
SOURCE: heater stopped blowing hot air this wonter
You need to check the heater core it has two hoses going to it feel of them if one is hot and the other cold heater core is stopped up replace it or flush it out if they are both hot it can be the switch or a vacuum line the vacuum line will be on the passenger side under the hood where the airconditioner hoses go in the body
SOURCE: Air conditioner suddenly stops blowing cold and
If you are absolutely confident the AC compressor is not kicking out on low pressure then it is the blend door actuator.
The blend door determines how much air blows through the heater core or evaporator.
The actuator can be purchased at dealer and maybe at a local part store.
Air
Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on
where door sticks)
In
all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive
that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the
AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air
temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this
door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common
complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these
parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire
dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or
qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.
Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.
