When you drive the 1994 saturn sl1 automatic down the road it will not usually shif out of 1st gear if you take it up to lets say 4000 rpms then let off, rpms drop, then you have to take them back up to atleast 4000 rpms to get it to start moving again. same goes for when it finally does shift to 2nd.

Before condemning any transmission I recommend buying a $15.00 can of sea foam transmission tune-up and a filter and fluid for your vehicle. My dodge caravan was squealing and wouldn't budge in any gear until i changed the filter put in new fluid and the sea foam transmission tune-up and 100,000 miles later is still running like new.
