The cooling temperature sensor on a 2008 Ford Taurus is located on the engine block near the thermostat housing.

Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling . Remove the intake manifold cover, if necessary. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement . Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement . Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector. Remove the ECT sensor.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The coolant temperature sensor can be found threaded either into the cylinder head or the coolant crossover passage.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling system to a level at least below the sensor.
3. Using the appropriate sized wrench or socket, remove the sensor.
4. To install, first lightly coat the threads of the sensor with a non-hardening sealer, then tighten the sensor until snug.
5. Refill the cooling system. The Coolant Temperature Sensor is located: Under hood, center, lower engine area, mounted on driver side of engine below intake manifold by the thermostat.

P1299 - Cylinder Head Over Temperature Protection Active Description: Indicates an engine overheat condition was detected by the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor. An FMEM strategy called fail-safe cooling was activated to cool the engine. Possible Causes:

• Engine cooling system concerns
• Low engine coolant level
• Base engine concerns

The Coolant Sensor should be locates near or on the Thermostat Housing.

The Coolant Temperature Sensor is located: Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, front of distributor, mounted in intake manifold

If you are refering to the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor,it is located on the right rear of the engine below the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve.

HINT: If your Deville is equipped with the analog instrument cluster and the temperature gauge is working, or if you have the digital instrument cluster and the driver information center (DIC) has been diplaying messages telling you that the engine is hot, the problem with your engine cooling fans is NOT the sensor.

The coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor mounted in the engine coolant stream. A thermistor is an electrical device that varies its resistance in relation to changes in temperature.

For 2.5L engines, the coolant temperature sensor is located on the left side of the cylinder head.

For MFI engines, the coolant temperature sensor is located on the intake manifold water jacket or near (or on) the thermostat housing.
