Hi, My Versa wanders at speeds over 70mph. Probably electric steering. How can I make it more stabile on the highway? The car did it since new. It has been checked for everything that could go wrong.

Car is a 2015 and has 3000 miles on it. All Versa's seem to be wandering at highway speeds. Mfg. defect??

Have an inspection done on the steering and front end suspension
loose /worn ball joints steering end joints , wheel alignment and faulty tyres will give you this indication
The power steering pump does nothing more that provide pressure into the steering box/rack to assist with the steering
it may be that the steering is to sensitive at speed and most systems compensate by having less power assist at speed
take it to a steering specialist accredited shop as the control valves may need replacing or adjusting

Testimonial: "Thanks for the info. It is much more involved than obvious."

if you feel that it is a design problem then have your service dealer lodge a complaint with al the details to the engineering department
Failing that ,contact your road authority and lodge a vehicle handling complaint with them to see if they can do anything

find your self a really good accredited wheel alignment shop and have the steering geometry varied from the factory settings as wandering steering can be fro the settings at all zeros where some castor angle (11/2 degree) and a bit of toe in may stop the fault.

Thanks Bill. Now we might be on to something. I did contact the dealer and it was useless. I never heard of the road authority . I will track them down. Thanks again.

dealers are prevented by the manufacturer to alter settings outside the engineers specifications and that is why I suggested a good accredited wheel aligner as they may have encountered this problem and have an unauthorised fix. I would also be taking this problem up with the engineers in the manufacturers shop by going on line to google and finding their contact us section and e-mailing the engineers. It is possible that there is already a solution but the dealer is reluctant to fix it . The manufacturer will not do anything until enough customers make complaints.

Front end vibration

its your track bar and steering dampener at low speeds the front axel walks side to side and the dampener cant compensate for the travel at hiway speed the dog track is caused by the track bar not keeping the front differential in place and alow ing it to wander and the shuttering you get is from stabilizer being week replace them first and let me know

Oil gauge goes to 80psi while I'm driving 70mph on highway, drops when I slow down. Why?

They are designed to change as the motor changes speed. If you have 80 lbs. of oil pressure than you have very good oil pressure in your engine. If it gets higher than 80, I would talk to service dept. at your local dealer.

I recently bought a 2008 Toyota Yaris I love the mileage but on the Freeway at 65-80 mph I get a lot of steering wander. I see there have been issues like the in the Yaris but how do you correct it?

why are you doing 65-80 in probably a 55 zone? slow down. if it is a small car which it probably is, it is not designed for highway speeds especially those

When doing 65-70 mph on the highway, the steering column shakes.

Could be a bad motor mount, probably the front right. It is on the frame behind your passenger side front tire. Place a pry bar between the frame and engine block and try to lift the engine a little. You'll be able to easily see if it's bad. You can also check the upper engine mount, it's on the drivers side coming from the firewall to the top of the motor.

Truck wanders! new trailing arm bushings, allignment. balljoints are tight.

Even if the ball joints are tight and no or little play if they are still the factory seeled ones the are probabley dry and that causes them to wander or another thing that would help is add a steering stabilizer shock on the front end or if it has one replace it but balljoints are the likely cause.

2004 Nissan Altima Wanders at Highway Speeds

Depending on the tires, it could be a couple of things. I would have the alignment checked. If there isn't enough toe-in, you will get great wear from your tires, but the handling will be loose or will wander.

I had new tires put on our Nissan Maxima and they did a reallignment with not enough toe-in. It became very twitchy at interstate highway speeds. Just a little toe in made a huge difference. I knew what to ask for because I have some racing background. We could go faster with less toe-in, because it reduces the resistance on the rolling tires, but also makes it more sensitive to the road surface, side winds and tire wear.

But there also shouldn't be any slop in the tie rods, etc...
