I had a new key made and it turns on the car but wont start it....if this is a computer issue is there anyway to bypass it? 1999 dodge intrepid es

Easy way to tell, look at your originally keys. When they first started using key chips as a security feature the keys with black covers where normal keys but if your original key had a gray rubber type cover it has a security chip in it. That means the only place to get a spare key made is the dealer because they have to order the key using your VIN. The only way to bypass this is to replace the ignition switch and the ECM. The ECM will cost $1600 + on it's own.

It starts but stops in like 5 seconds

Are you using a reproduced key. Most Intrepids require a key with a chip in it and they are the only type of key that will start the engine.

Ignition Module

They don't have an ignition module per say.. You firing is controled by the PCM, which is the computer and is locater under your air intake box, which has to be remover for access. How did you come up with the idea it was a bad ignition module??

Electrical Problem!!!

Not replacing , re soldering..

the wires connecting to the key switch (where you put your key)

you will have to remove the dash and resolder the wires connecting to it..

or if its chipped or contact keys broken then the switch may need replacing..
