Hello chauncy. First off need to know if its floor board console or steering colum let me know if its the floor board option youll need phllips screwdriver an remove floor board panel cover shouldpop out to acess shifter assy
what is the reason why you need to acess the shifter is the reason due to not being able to shift gears while steping on brake pedal could be shifter release actuator you should hear a selinoid releaseing the park release pin in shifter every time you hit the break pedal tap brake pedal an listen for the shifter release selinoid in steering coloum if not its the brake light pedal switch or release selinoid in steering coloum
Your vehicle is equiped with a Brake Shift Interlock which means if the brake is not pressed the shifter will not go out of park. That switch could be bad. You can bypass this shift by using the following procedure. I hope this helps and good luck.
check to see if your brake lights work. No? check your brake light fuse. OK? change your brake light switch. Your brake light switch powers the brake / shifter interlock. There is usually a way to bypass the interlock- check your owners manual for bypass button location ( its usually next to the shifter)
I do sell the broken part for the shifter on a lincoln Aviator by itself for $100.00. The second option I do rebuild it for you for $200.00. you can reach me at 858-688-3705
