Pulley making noise

You have several pulleys with bearings in them. The Serpetine belt rides on several pulleys and there are slight differences in the size of those pulleys.

Usually you take off the Serpetine belt and turn each pulley to detect roughness. Then get the appropriate pulley off and replace it.

Sometimes water pump pulleys also make noise as well as Alternators.

How do I remove the alternator to replace it with a newer one?

1) IMPORTANT - Disconnect the neg battery terminal (IMPORTANT) 2) Release the spring loaded tensioner (makes the serpetine belt tight). The control bolt that keeps it tight is right tunder the alternator (1994 Voyager). Use a long handled torque wrench. 3) Hold on the to serpentine belt (otherwiuse it'll be a mess) keep it tight-ish. Pass a stick through it and keep it tight or prop it up with a bungies or something!!! Be gentle. 4) Two bolts hold the alternator, one is obvious the other is more towards the back. Watch your knuckles be gentle but strong. Remove the nuts, gently lift it out and hold it there. 5) Disconnect the leads from the the electrical that are attached. Place the old one on the bench. 6) Watch that belt!!! 7) Get the new alternator. 8) Connect the electrical. 9) Bolt it in. 10) Place the serpetine belt in the groove, careful make sure it doesn't pop out anywhere else below. Popping out (even one groove) and driving it could destroy your belt. 11) Back to the tensioner, relase slowly, it will make itself tight again. 12) Attach the battery again. 13) Start the car. 14) IMPORTANT remember, clean those battery posts and cable leads. the dirt won't allow full contact thus minimal recharge. Trust me, been there.

Tension pulley for the Serpetine belt

The tensioner is the 3 1/2" pulley located between power steering pump and alternator down about 5" on front of engine. Does it have air conditioning?
If you need the diagram please post your email address and I will email it to you as I do not know how to post pictures on this.

How to replace belt

To change the serpentine belt is very easy, If you look carefully, you will find a pulley between your alternator and air conditioning pump, this is called the tensioner, In other words the pulley that pushes down the belt between the alternator and a/c pump. Place a 1/2 drive wrench to pull the tensioner up. This will loosen the belt for replacement. Hope this was helpful Good Luck =)

Belt removal or change

i'm not 100 percent possitive but i assume you will have to loosen the tensioner to serpetine belt and it should have a adjustment and just loosen the adjustment. if thats the case you can jump the power steering belt off and back on by prying it with a screw driver and rotating the crankshaft pully
