I have a 2006 grand prix and the check gas cap is on. Why?

The same time the check gas cap came on the check engine light
also came on. The gas cap indicator sometimes goes off but the
check engine never goes off. This has been going on for about 2
weeks now. Can any body tell me what could be causing the
problem?

Check the interior seal inside the gas cap--could be damaged or collapsed. Replace cap if damaged. Try clearing fault code by disconnecting one battery terminal for little while, then reconnect. This clears the fault memory in the computer. The other way is to have the code read and cleared with a reader.

Sometimes It will set a Code and After its Corrected the Light Needs to Be Manualy Reset By DISCONNECTING the POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL for 30-60 SECONDS AND THIS WILL RESET THE LIGHT.

2004 Grand Prix GT gas cap light,an engine light is on. Took it to autozone an code read po445 replaced gas cap, an light is still on. is there a time limit on light going out if i jus replaced it? Or what...

P0445 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted is located in the engine compartment and is most likely the root of the problem.Would check the plug and wiring going to this to verify that no plug or wiring damaged has occurred. It is quite possible the part has gone bad.

CHECK GAS CAP LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON

You may have a damaged seal on the gas cap. If the cap is good then you will need to inspect the filler neck and evaporative components.

2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, check gas cap

Could possible be the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor. It is located on top of the fuel pump. The fuel pump access is located in the trunk, under the carpet, behind the back seat. The AutoZone part number is SU 1390.

My gas cap 2005 grand prix

If the cap was tight. It could be a different leak. Drive a few days. If the light doesnt go out, a Garage will need to check it for you, there may be more to it, like an evaporative leak.

Gas cap light will not shut off

Check the microswitch that activate/deactivate the gas cap light. This should be at the location where the gas
cap is located.

2006 pontiac grand prix 3.8 supercharged, check

you probably have a problem in the evap emissions system and a superficial engine diagnostic @ a shop will likely confirm this. a loose gas cap is the most common cause for this, so it tells you to check it first in an attempt to save you a trip to the shop. if the cap is new and tightened past 3 clicks, then the problem lies somewhere else in that system. there are many parts in that system, so it probably would be best left to a shop to figure out exactly what the cause is.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix check engine light comes on and goes off randomly. What could be the problem

check the gas cap. there is a sensor somewhere in the gas tank that knows when the gas cap is loose or has a defective seal.

Check engine light came on along with check gas cap

Did u have engine codes scanned? If not, have it done, as it may indicate the problem. Let me know. (most parts stores will scan for codes free) .
