What does it mean that my 66 pony has a green dot trany?

the '65/'66 C4, was known as the "Green Dot" C4 & has a different shift pattern to the '67/later C4's.

So your C4 tranny is the green dot which is an UPGRADED option. A better tranny better gears and stronger parts and what not, there was also the white dot tranny that was the cheaper or less performance transmission. As far as i understand the white dot was available for better fuel consumption HAHAHA which no one really cared about in 66 anyways.

In '65/'66 it was something like this:
P - Park
R - Reverse
N - Nuetral
White Dot - Starts in 2nd, automatically shifts to 3rd
Green Dot - Starts in 1st, automatically shifts to 2nd and 3rd

Were i chek transmition oil

On the back of the engine towards the firewall, you'll find another dip stick colored red just like the engine oil which is colored yellow. Check the transmission oil with the engine running and the transmission oil at operating temperature. Pull it the dip stick out and wipe it clean and take the second reading, there will be markings on the dip stick to where the transmission fluid should be and never over fill your transmission, thats just as bad as having not enough transmission fluid.

I have a 1995 ford f150 5 speed transmission manual and 1st and 2nd use to work but now don't ? what could i chek for?

Hi:
Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 1st and 2nd don't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

Gear Shift very stiff, doesnt want to go into 1st gear or reverse

Continued operation like this and $100 would have been the cheap fix. If this is a hydraulic clutch, check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. Most take Dot 3 brake fluid and it will say on the cap. It is located on the fire wall near brake master cylinder

Gravelly feel when shifting, 99 mercury cougar, manual trans

Ford had a tech bulletin on this.

it is caused by worn synchros in the transmission. but the only reason you feel it is that your engine mounts are worn.

so the root cause is transmission wear, the reason you feel it is worn engine mounts.

they reccommend replacing both the transmission with an update model and replacing the engine mounts

Ford taurus

you might have to replace the solenoid also called swtch, and service the transmission since any durt in the system will cause the solenoids to stuck, but the solenoids are inside the transmission
