The flashing "Hold" light in a 2001 Ford Laser automatic transmission indicates a potential issue with the transmission. It's a warning sign that there may be a problem that needs attention. Here are some possible reasons for the flashing "Hold" light and steps to take:
Transmission Overheating: The flashing "Hold" light can be triggered by the transmission overheating. This can happen if you've been driving in heavy traffic or in hot weather. If this is the case, you can try the following steps:
Pull over to a safe location.
Shift the transmission to "P" (Park).
Allow the engine to idle for a few minutes to cool down the transmission.
Turn off the engine and wait for a moment.
Start the engine again and see if the "Hold" light remains off. If it does, it was likely caused by overheating.
Transmission Fault: If the "Hold" light continues to flash even after restarting the engine, there may be a more serious issue with the transmission. In this case, it's advisable to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic or a transmission specialist. They can diagnose the problem and recommend the necessary repairs.
Transmission Fluid Level: Check the transmission fluid level as low fluid levels can sometimes trigger warning lights. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for instructions on how to check the transmission fluid level. If it's low, top it up with the recommended transmission fluid.
Transmission Sensor or Solenoid: The flashing "Hold" light can also be related to sensors or solenoids in the transmission that may be malfunctioning. A diagnostic scan of the vehicle's computer system can identify any error codes related to the transmission, helping pinpoint the issue.
It's important not to ignore a flashing "Hold" light, as transmission problems can worsen if not addressed promptly. Continuing to drive with a malfunctioning transmission can lead to further damage and potentially costly repairs. Therefore, it's recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to determine the cause of the issue and take appropriate action.
You did not post the year make and model BUT you should not drive the vehicle because when the check engine light flashes, you can cause damage to your engine. You need to get an OBD reader from a chain autoparts store and see what codes are present.

Flashing o/d light is a "check engine" light for your transmission. Codes can be in the main computer so get it obf2 scanned, but better to head to good transmission shop. Noise likely in the trans.
the name of this transmission is hydrAmatic not hydrOmatic it is made by General Motors , i cant find a reference to g14 ,look for serial number begining TH___ or 4L or 4T as these cover the age of your vehicle
done at home and engine lights flashing indicates that wires for the transmission have not been connect or connected correctly
engine light also reports on transmission problems and the first cause is wiring
from there get a fault code reading to get what servo/' solenoid or sensor is faulty
chances are you don't have to replace the computer. the reason i tell you this is because you did not mention that the car is running lousy. no complaints of rough idle or missfire or hard starting. chances are that your engine speed sensor which sends the signal to the computer which then controls the transmission is most likely the culprit.. and it could just bhe that there is a loose connection between the two. if that is ok then your transmission control module is faulty. this is not the main computer, but the gobetween the trans and the ecm.. hope this helps please rate this...thanks(btw....the knock sensors control timing not the trans mission)
