SOURCE: Correct way to align timing marks

hi -- the timing marks on a twin cam are tricky!! heres how- turn the motor over to tdc on the bottom pulley, this will align two marks on the lower cog-----now on the top cog,it has an obvious mark near the teeth-- well disregard this for now!! the cog has a hole in it,in one of the spokes, well this goes at 12 o,clock and lines up with a mark you will see on the housing! now if you are right you will see the mark near the teeth is at around 4,oclock---i just did one and it is right--cheers

SOURCE: Looking for cambelt timing marks/ positions please, Twin cam engine Thanks Kevin

these bend valves if belt breaks while running
Align the timing marks on the camshaft gears to the notches on the camshaft cover, using the intake gear mark for the intake gear and the exhaust gear mark for the exhaust gear.
Align the mark on the crankshaft gear with the
notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.

SOURCE: how to set the twin cam ,on a renault megane

a renault ,real euro car this one ,no problem here at all ,bring the pistons to TDC the bring back a bit so no piston is at the top ,mark it whilst its at the top with a thin white paint mark on the sprocket ,then back it down a bit .fit head because i sure the head bolts are under the cams ,then fit cams and make sure the inlet and exhaust valves are closed on no1 .no4 should be open with the cam lobes pointing down ,now look for the timing marks, they could be a lug on the cam pointing at something or a slot on the back of the camshaft that has to horizontal with the head ,or even a hole in the front pulley that aligns with a hole indent in the head that has an 8mm bolt push in to hold gear wheel in place -then when you find the marks bring the bottom sprocket back to the mark ,the actual mark is on the flywheel as i remember a special tool with a spring loaded pin to locate flywheel is used ,the fit the belt ,seem to remember a white line here on the belt that aligns with the cams a well ?? look iam old and i forget things ,then make sure you turn engine over twice on bottom pulley with a ratchet to ensure valves clear before starting -

What would cause my 2002 suzuki esteem to just die

Jamie, Is or was engine light on, are there any codes, was there any recent work done? The more info. the easier to help diagnose.
Removing the oil fill cap and have a helper crank the engine, while you look for cam movement,if you have cam movement that's good.
Next squirt some starter fluid in throttle body and try starting, try a couple times. If starts and revs fine while running on starter fluid, problem is a faulty fuel pump filter, fuse, relay or pump.
If it spits sputters or backfire while trying to start, timing belt has slipped probably and needs replaced.

I need to know where a cam shaft sensor goes in a 1999 Suzuki Esteem 1. 8 4 door stick show me diagrams

not true, Huseyin.! at all.
OP: (original poster)
J18 engine. FWD. application. USA setup
with COP coils x4 (DIS ignition?)
our Esteems started in 1999....
other countries have them too, but use totally different spark (distributor) and Im not answering for THAT, only USA EPA spec. engines.
some othere countries, has a Mazda. 1.8L BP.
answering for J18 only.
the J18 is an understoked, J20. (early engine)
good to know for parts swaps !

OP backup and read your first post.on same topic.
the answer is there, too.
facing engine, crank pulley on left
see that head, see the front cam,
this cam has the CMP drive (left side,) or right facing engine) the cam drives it directly.
so... is just there.

why? not scan the PCM and see if you have P0340 errors = CMP misfiring..... (even 1 in 10)
and the prev. post has the real diagram....
cmp mount is here.

http://www.fixkick.com/engine/20Liter/html/image_21.html

see it?

the part is also shown at the online suzuki parts pages.

Scan it, get this ???????

Where is the cam shaft sensor located on a 1999 Suzuki Esteem 1.8 Suzuki

double posted. by OP
the 1.8L , is on the left rear of cam, it a twin cam engine, DOHC.
face the engines, front pulley, point to right rear of cam shaft. bingo. CMP

on the 1999, In usa, any scan tool will till you its bad. for sure.
P03xx codes. 340 are cmp failure.
can be seen driving, or parked, engine running, or even CRANKING.
if the scan tool shows no, errors with it, it's not bad.
the PCM will show even 1 missing pulse in 10. (drop outs)
fact. (covered in the FSM book)

here is the parts page.
page 21 shows the mount.

Can a 95 Suzuki esteem engine work with 89 Suzuki sidekick engine parts like the Pistons, rod bearing , and pin

no at all.
the 89 sidekick has a G16A engine
the esteem uses a J18 or G16B engine.

the G16A parts match G16A parts.
the B engines, have special pistons, fly cut for valve clearance.
mixing A and B parts will not work.
A = 8valve
B = 16valve
the J18 is 1.8L and is twin cam and totally different engine.

why not find a good short block? and build from there?
in the USA (car is rare )but all G16 blocks can befound
from 1989 to 1998, a 10 year span on trackers and sidekicks.
and esteems.
next time post displacements, so we can know what is there.

How to replace a broken timing belt for a 1998 daewoo lanos?? Would there be any head damage?

yes it is quite possible that valves are bent if the cam belt broke or teeth stripped off of old belt, which unfortuneately means removing the cylinder head and getting it repaired (valves replaced and possibly guides) see some of my other posts for cam belt timming marks locations etc...
depending what motor is in your vehicle twin cam or single?

stevenhurc_14.jpg and if its twin cam you usually need cam locking tool for cam gears.

Hi! What are the correct timing marks for a 1.8 suzuki esteem engine. I needed for change the timing chain. Thanks

if you take off the upper belt cover and line up the top dead center timing mark the cam mark will be right on or off 180 degrees. Line up the dot on the cam with the arrow by rotating the crankshaft around till both the cam mark and the crank TDC mark line up. Now when you take off the lower cover all the marks will line up for the crank. They are usually pretty obvious, but if your are not sure at this point you can always paint your own. Just make sure when you slide the new belt on , all the timing marks line up.

I have a 1999 chrysler 2.7 twin cam,timing belt off,resetting the timing,which way i point the timing marks?

take the rocker cover off and look at the cams for the timing marks ,might be a falt on the back of the cam that has to be level with the head ,also turn engine over by hand before trying to start, remove no1 plug and make sure piston is at the top

Is valve adjustment a part of normal maitenance on Suzuki Esteem

When you hear some tapping, that's why you need -valve adjustments. At 137,000miles you probably need more than that to continue your trouble-free drives.
