You didnt state vehicle however if the engine knocks the knock sensor will back off the timing thinking its detination not an actual knock if its knocking loudly stop driving it, something is going to let loose

Sounds like you've blown her up. An engine starts knocking when the bearings are worn to the point of being loose. I wouldn't keep starting her up. If I'm right(and the odds are on me) you'll sling a rod through the block or the oil pan.
If you can get the oil pan off do so(after uyou drain it of course) and grab the rods one at a time and find out which one(or more) that's giving you the problem.It(or they) will be loose around the crank shaft.
Good luck,but for Heavens sake DON'T start it again until you check those rods.

hi. that noise is the vacuum pump knocking. it should stop if you press the break pedal a few times or pull the pipe of the break servo. £120 on ebay half hour job to change

Ther e is a chance your injectors are leakin g down and there is excess fuel in the cylinders. Not a good thing. So, you fuel pressure and injectors need chkg. good luck

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. I had the same problem on my 2006 Lucerne and it was the engine mount located on the front of the vehicle behind the radiator.
