Same problem, it's the fluid/parking brake light so you can't scan for codes, it shouldn't happen, just had the brakes done. The shop monkeys can't figure it out. Help.

2006 Tacoma faulty Brake indicator light

Please note that the hand brake is NOT the only reason that this light will remain on. It is possible that the light is trying to warn you of an hydraulic failure in your brake system.

Check your brake fluid level to make sure the fluid level is not low. If you find that it IS low, you need to investigate to find out WHY it is low. You shoud never have to add fluid to your brake system reservoir. If it is low, there is a reason for it that needs to be repaired.
If the fluid level is not low and you are certain that the hand brake is fully released, then you could have a bad hand brake switch, a defective fluid level sensor, or shorted/damaged wiring.

Sensor Lights

Hi,

Based on your description, if it is red that would be the "Brake System" warning light. This warning light indicates that the hand brake or the park brakes are engaged. Alternately, this could also indicate that the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir is below nominal. Top off brake fluid if low and have your brake pads checked as well as visually inspect for any possible brake fluid leak.

On the other hand if it is yellow that would be the ABS (antilock brake system) Light. Momentary lighting up would be normal at startup but consistent light would indicate a malfunction in the brake system such as either low brake-fluid level, stuck brake caliper or faulty ABS. Check brake fluid level and have your vehicle's brakes checked.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
