Can you see the slave cylinder moving when the clutch depressed. If so, problem most likely internal to clutch. Possible broken shift fork... seized throw out bearing..... damaged pressure plate.... worn out clutch disc. The tranny will have to be removed for inspection
Hi Amiralred, I believe the problem is to be found with the clutch plate and most likely to do with a defective center boss. When it is removed I believe you will find that one or more of the torque absorption spring has broken and possibly the center boss. A good idea with clutch plates, is to use original replacement parts if possible. Regards John
I an assuming that since it grinds that this is a standard shift transmission. If so, your slave or master cylinder for your clutch has either failed or leaked out, or both. Try adding some brake fluid to your Clutch master cylinder and pump vigorously to purge any bubbles. If you can engage your transmission after this, you will need to have the hydraulic clutch system bled. Until that time you will need to pump several times between gear changes to use the vehicle.
The slave cylinder for your clutch has a valve in it, which keeps the clutch from engaging too quickly. The purpose is to keep you from just dumping the clutch and wreaking havoc on your transmission. If you're confident that you don't need that extra safety device in there, you can remove it, just google slave cylinder valve removal. It will give your clutch more of an aftermarket feel.
