Sorry no relay ! The alternator is computer controlled ! Did you check the wires at the alternator ? Should have five wires , one heavier gage on the back of the alternator , this one should have B+ voltage , also should have a connector with four wires . One of these should have battery voltage as well . The other three are from the BCM an PCM , The white with blue stripe is from the BCM an the blue with yellow stripe an brown with white stripe are from the PCM . PCM - powertrain control module . BCM - body control module . Do you know what these are ? If not you need to take your vehicle to a ASE certified repair facility .

Be like the 3rd person ever
to state a post with country and engine size gas or diesel
knock our socks off. for fun.

I will pretend owner is USA and J20b?
and the alt lamp glows, running.
amazing what can be done with facts and real symtoms, not one stated.
    1: fuses blown.
2: fuse link blown because someone pulled the ALT or messed with it/w battery neg lug not pulled.! boom......link now vaporized
3: fan belt slips or is missing or its tension'er is bad.
4: bad wires to ALT. (look)
5: scan PCM see if PCM sees ALT errors. yah.
6: Alt is bad, take it off and get it tested.
if tests good car may have PCM controlled ALT, best is to read the schematic or tell us exactly your country and engine size and if gas or diesel. and we then send facts to you, if alt is computer controlled or not!!! or unless $800 new PCM is fun to buy?
    your call.

I would be checking the external regulator ( if it is not internal in the alternator ) as that will stop a charge for the battery

I installing a high output altentor in truck. I have a beuler 12v 40/60 amp relay how does this get connected. I see the male and female connector in back of altenator, but have 4 additional wires. 2 wires...

I can't believe that you have been supplied a relay for a high output alternator.A 40/60 relay can handle up to 60 amps,a high output alternator would blow that up as soon it has it work hard. The relay has to be for the field terminal which will never draw more than 5 amps.I would say that you are being scammed by someone, can't be sure, but i would be on guard.

Battery not charging

I would check the altenator again. if you didnt disconnect the battery and a spark shot off while installing the new starter it could have decharged the spool on the inside of the altenator to where the spool no longer charges. if you have the altenator checked for consistant charging and it comes up good check the relay for the altenator it most like will have messed up the relay. to make a long solution short check the relay for the altenator it will be in the relay box under the hood.

Electrical Problems

Al, this truck has a regulator locted inside the altenator, it also has a relay located in the power distribution box under the hood, see your owners manual for exact location, to verify an no charging problem, start the truck and measure the voltage at the battery, it should read 13.5v-14.5v, if not then the altenator is not working, most common problem is regulator failure requiring altenator replacement, hope this helps, let me know

What is the part number for the alternator

If your car is a 2.5l v6 duratech Then the altenator can be bought from dealer, or other supplier. Tips to change the alt can be found in the pages of this site under 1998 contour altenator. The original Motocraft altenators were built by Visteon Part #N7775 (AO7775)This is a 130 amp altenator. Have the diagnostic done in car before you change it. Also check the maxifuse which is located under the coil pack at the back of the engine. The removal is time consuming, but you will save money big time.
