Diagram for taking out a radiator

Here is the procedure: Remove radiator cap, Drain coolant, remove drain plug located at bottom of radiator. Remove upper and lower radiator hoses, Remove electric fans mounting 4 bolts and disconnect electrical plug connection, Remove Hi & Lo transmission cooler lines connected behind radiator and finally, remove upper radiator mounting bolts located on top and remove radiator upward.

Thermostate location for 1997 honda crv

Follow bottom radiator hose from the radiator to the engine block, thermostat is there, it takes a short 10 mm 3/8 drive socket to remove the bottom bolt, and a 10 mm wrench to remove the top bolt. Drain the radiator first in a clean bucket, so you can reuse the coolant, then take the breather hose off the fuel injection body, then once you have removed the two bolts off the goose neck, you may be able to pry it apart at the top between the two cast pieces, you will also need to remove the ground screw on the housing, and the radiator hose attached to it, make sure you put the thermostat in the same way you took it out, the thermostat goes between the gasket, take very little gasket compound and put it on the goose neck , this will help keep the thermostat in place when putting back together, be sure you have all the hoses hooked back up and its snug, also the hose going to the injection body, put your antifreeze back in the radiator first them fill the coolant jug just past max run the car till the radiator fan turns on then turn it off and let cool for a bit and repeat until you have all the air out of the system and the coolant jug it filled to max as it runs to operating temperature! you will have to buy an extra 2 gallons of prestone antifreeze, because you'll have lost some from taking the goose neck off the thermostat housing! How do i put water in my radiator?

you need to replace thermostat and radiator cap.look under hood around engine compartment.look for a radiator cap near radiator,add 50/50 antifreeze and water to coolant system to bring up boiling point.pure water will cause engine run hotter because water evaporate away,remove radiator pour coolant in the radiator until coolant stop dropping in the radiator now some vechicle pour coolant in the coolant overflow jug,pour coolant until coolant level stop dropping and the coolant level stay at cold full mark.start engie let idle few minutes, watch coolant level in radiator if coolant start dropping add more coolant, when coolant level stop dropping put radiator cap back on let engine idle until both top radaitor hose and bottom coolant hose get warm turn off engine wait until it get cool then take a large rag slightly open radiator just a litle at a time to keep from getting scaled.once radiator remove add more coolant if low,put radiator cap back on start the engine let it idle watch the temp gauge if temperature gauge going hot zone stop engine wait until cool then add more coolant,keep doing this until engine stop overheating going into hot zone and coolant level stop dropping,make the coolant overflow jug coolant level stay at full cold mark, dont let jug run empty if so air will get in the coolant system causing engine to overheat.

No my alero is overheating. I have replaced the thermostat and waterpump and put a new cap on reservior and im losing coolant out the overflow

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

The lower radiator hose is usually connected to the water pump. It's purpose is to draw coolant from the bottom of the radiator and circulate it through the engine and heater. a word of caution, even if you drain the radiator when you loosen the hose there will be a sizeable amount of coolant flowing from that point. Keep a pan handy!!!
