My car has a very loud ticking noise. Someone to said the valves need adjusted, yet my dad who is a mechanic said that my make and model of car does not have adjustable values. Can someone help? Are they adjustable? My father insists they are not adjustable but has not even checked under the hood yet.
Hi Melissa:
I'd be trusting DOD (Dear Old Dad) on this one, and taking it one step further, pretend he's a FIXYA helper and ask him to "pleeease" come and listen to your engine 'cause he knows so much more than you and if it breaks you'll be after him to help pay for it and then your mom will be upset and you'll have to move to another state and they'll never get to see you again, and, and, and,,
eventually he'll give in, (all dad's do) and he'll help and you'll be happy and he'll be a hero and on and on and on.

the valve lash is adjustable on your car, i would start with a tune up and valve adjustment.

No. The valves are hydraulic. Pour about a coke tin amount of diesl in with the engine oil. Run the enginr to normal teperature. Drain the oil and refill with new oil. It sounds like a lazy or blocked follower. Once you do this it should disappear.
SOURCE: ticking, sounds like lifters.
with engine running try using long screwdriver on valve cover & listen through handle to help pinpoint noise

Both available engines have hydraulic lifters, and valve are not adjusted.

This item is a self learning part. You will need to put the car in gear and have the emergency brake on. Also have your left foot on the brake pedal for the front brakes. Rev the RPMs up to 1200 & no more and hold it there for 5 minutes. That will set the IAC to the setting needed to idle. It is a computerized controlled item and the feature here presented to you will set the learning code to the computer
