Could be as simple as your PCV valve. I had very much the same symptoms on my 2010 corolla and a new valve ($5) fixed it. The labour is generally very easy. Just search on YouTube on how to change the PCV valve on a 2005 Corolla and you will probalby find a video on it.
If your valve has not been replaced in the last 5 to 7 years then it is due to be done anyway, so its an easy thing to try, without being a waste of $
Could be detonation in the cylinders
it is from pre-combustion or spontaneous combustion which is uncontrolled ignition of the mixture
it can be from a lean mixture , or incorrect ignition timing
run the fault codes to see which sensors may be faulty
