i got a 2001 silverado 1500 and it wont start it turns over and fires and .... Put the key in and the truck barely starts due to the battery being weak. .... Is the base fuel pressure the same hot when it is cold, and so is the spark weak when the engine is hot ?

Do you have an aftermarket alarm system? if so disconnect the entire alarm system and retry.

Sounds like a weak fuel pump. Have you checked fuel pressure? It should be at least 50 psi key on engine off.

Try jump starting it. I suspect your battery is dead. After time they don't hold a charge as deep as they once did. Have it load tested to verify. Your lights and other options don't draw nearly what your starter needs.

I would lean towards the fuel pump, but... How dirty was the old filter??? if it was bad then the new one may have picked up whatever was left in the line. I guess I would go the easy route, replace the fuel filter, this time with the filter off crank the truck and catch the fuel in a mason jar til it is clean, you may need to drain the tank and try to clean it out if it is real dirty. 02 sierra 1500 5.3 starts very quick when cold but when hot cranks a lot before starting,I replaced fuel pump and filter did not help.It has 55 psi fuel pressure but falls below 40 kinda fast.???

could be your fuel pump relay you should check to see if the pump runes for about 3 sec. when you turn the key to the on position. It should if not the oil switch is turning on the pump after you achieve pressure.
if not check the relay. also with the pressure gauge hooked up check if your pressure drops off fast after you turn off the car. if so you need ether a pressure reg or a fuel pump.
