Why does water come out of the exhaust pipe on a 1998 Ford Contour 2.0 litre? Will that cause the engine a long time to warm up?

Hello Joe, and Happy New Year :>D

Gasoline contains water at molecular level, and when the gas is combusted in the engine, the water turns to steam and condenses on the cold walls of the exhaust and drips from the tailpipe. If the weather is cold and the engine is only ticking over, water will continue to drip. If you take the vehicle for a run, the extra heat in the exhaust due to higher revs will heat up the walls of the exhaust and the dripping will stop. What you are seeing is perfectly normal in the winter. Only the ambient temperature outside will affect warm up time because the engine block is pre-chilled in winter, or warm in the summer.

Heating up your car

It seems simple, but you can make a big difference by turning off your radio, wipers, climate control, all of those accessories, when you start the car. Most of the wear on the engine happens when you start the car, and by turning off those accessories, your engine doesn’t have to work as hard when starting.
Another thing people do is revving the engine in the winter. This actually doesn’t help “warm up” the car. Although it does technically make the engine hotter, it’s not the kind of “warming up” that you want. Revving your engine in the winter causes extreme temperature changes right away, which is actually the opposite of what you want. When you start the car, the oil hasn’t yet worked its way through the system, so the engine is working without lubricant. The right way to do it is just let the car sit and idle for about 30 seconds to a minute at the least.

How to diagnose ALL vehicle NO heat problems

It is winter and you jump in your car start it up and turn the heater blower fan on.
You sit and wait...and wait.... NO HEAT !
Here are a few easy steps to help diagnose the problem:

1) After vehicle is completely warmed up, open your vehicles hood.

2) Grab a pair of gloves. Put them on, now put your hand with your glove on, on the TOP radiator hose. ( The top black radiator hose is the largest hose on the top of the radiator inlet running to the thermostat housing, in most vehicles)

3) Be careful NOT to touch ANY part of the engines cooling fan(s). Is the radiator hose HOT or COLD to the touch ?

If the hose is cold the easiest repair is to replace the thermostat. The thermostat helps regulate the engine temperature keeping it approximately 195 degrees Fahrenheit, and helps supply hot coolant to run through your vehicles heater core to keep you warm in the winter.

Best method for defrosting the windshield of Toyota Corolla

The snow is starting to fall and the crisp, frigid winter air has arrived. I think that we can all agree that frosted windshields are a pain and having to go out to scrap the layer of ice off your windshield before heading to work in the morning can be the biggest pain of all. Here are some useful tips on 3 easy ways to defrost your windshield. Remember that it is important to take the time to properly clear off your vehicle before driving. Reduced visibility can be hazardous to yourself and other drivers on the road.
Cover Your Windshield-when leaving your vehicle, cover your windshield with a large piece of cardboard, a folded sheet or a towel. Remove the windshield cover when you are ready to leave and find that your windshield is free of ice and snow. There may be a thin layer or frost but the heater can quickly take care of that. There are magnetic windshield covers that are available to purchase online as well.

Ice Preventer or De-Icer Spray-ice preventer sprays can be sprayed on the windshield each night to create an ice-free windshield in the morning. De-icers are used to help clear your windshield when there is frost. You can purchase commercial ice preventer or de-icer sprays but you can also make homemade sprays as well. Fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and add a few drops of dish soap, mix it well and then spray it directly on your icy windshield. A 3-to-1 white vinegar and water mixture will also work as well.
Remote start-remote start is a great feature to have in the winter and many new vehicles come with this feature now. Use the remote start while you are finishing up getting ready for your day and by the time you get to your vehicle it will be defrosted, warm and ready to go.

Heater and defroster don't work well

Connie this sounds like your thermostat in the engine is stuck open not letting the water stay in the engine block to heat up. The fix is to replace the thermostat with a new one that will allow the water to stay in the block to warm up. The typical symptoms of a stuck open thermostat is that the air will blow somewhat warm but never hot in the winter time, but it will take a few miles for the air to warm up at all. I would check with the dealership and find out what degree thermostat to replace it with. I run a 180 degree in the summer and a 195 degree thermostat in the winter just to have hot heat in the winter. I hope this helps

My heater fan (blower) will not work with the remote car starter that was installed professionally. they tried but there is no single remote starter manufacturer that has separate module to install for...

I am not sure I understand the problem. If I do understand correctly, all you need to do is, at the end of your driving for the day, leave the fan (blower) at the setting you require it to be at when you begin your day. Alternatively you could use a block heater (perhaps on a timer) which would warm up the coolant to a temperature adequate to run your fan (blower) when you enter your vehicle for the next day. The added benefit to this would be a saving in fuel while your vehicle idles before you begin your day, not mention the possibility of it stalling during after start up the next day. Is my assumption correct?

De Icing in the winter

you really dont want to install an auto starter on a hybrid, but if you do please let an experienced tech perform the installation. the engine on the vehicle works in conjunction with the battery, the battery actually helps keep everything warm so the vehicle warms up faster.
