I have a 1998 neon and it just stops while driving after it sits a few minutes it starts up battery light comes on when it stops

99% of the time if ALL power is lost then comes back it's dirty battery cables.

If the battery was sitting that long, it cannot store much energy.

More than likely it is the alternator not putting out enough to run the car.

Something is staying on or a control module isn't powering down .

Loose connection under the hood.

Does the cooling fan come on ? Not the thermostat . Sitting still no air movement through the radiator ,when you drive air flows through the radiator. I would be looking at a problem with the cooling fan . Relay maybe, fan motor etc...

First see what code is in the computer.Cycle the key three times and stop when it in the run position. The check engine light will start blinking. The first code should blink once then pause, then two blinks.This is showing that it is in the diagnostic mode. read all codes the same way, untill it starts with 12 again. Write them down. Then remove the negative cable from your battery post,after one minute, replace neg. cable. The light should be off.If it comes on again, it has set a hard code. You must repair whatever the codes indicate. Get a list of trouble codes online at Google.

check the engine earth the gearbox earth and the battery connections...

Hey have you recently changed your head unit. I have a 2000 s10 2.2 and i recently hardwired my pioneer 4000ub head unit and the security light came on upon not starting. every time you try to start the car while the security light is on it will add 10 minutes onto your time. For the security light not to come on you need to check your wiring. just remember dont keep trying becuase it wont work!!! find the problem and fix it.

i had the same problem with my fiero the ignition module quits when it gets hot.
