hello . did the dealer scan the vehicle anyway , if the light was on it should have a history code safe in memory and they should check for it . it does not matter if the light when out by it self ,it just means that the fault its not present ,(it sounds like a bad mass meter its a fuel manegement sensor that when it goes bad the transmision does not know the force created by the engine and therefore it cant shift properly)
there is a Technical service bulletin for this problem, the number of the TSB is 01575, TSB Date:January 1, 2004
It has to do with engine valve seating problems.

I take it you do not have a D4 light flashing? That usually indicates a control system problem with the transmission.
Next, have you checked the transmission fuel level (low fluid leads to slipping or loss of drive)? If not, with the hood open, follow the large radiator hose on the left of your radiator (facing the car) down to a point at which you see a ring (probably yellow or orange) right next to the right hand side of the hose when it gets about as far down as you can go. That is your transmission fluid level check/filler port. It will either pull out or screw out. Check the level on level ground within one minute of the engine being shut off. Take the dipstick out, wipe it off, then re-insert it. Take it out again and check the level. It should be between the marks on the dipstick. If it is not, add enough fluid to bring it up to a level between the marks. Use Dexron II automatic transmission fluid.
Hope this solves the problem. If not, leave a comment and I will investigate further.
