I have a 2003 Ford Escape in Australia which has just been repaired - welded cracks in the manifold at mechanics. Lost power later and told EGR valve was blown, how do I find the problem?

My mechanic told me that the EGR blew because of back pressure and heat. He advised that I have a 'blockage' in the exhaust sytem. There are several Cat converters 4 I think on the escape, so how do I figure out which one is blocked? I cannot afford to spend another AUD$2000+ to replace the entire system, I am a disbaled pensioner and it's my only means of transport, nor can I afford to replace the car. Can anyone let me know as to what I can do to try and fix this problem.

SOURCE: engine lost power on a 2004 ford escape and then

Yes this could be the problem, because you are having backpressure, which is usually the cat, or worst case scenario, you may have a bent or stuck exhaust valve...But what you can do, is disonnect the cat., or the exhaust, and let it run...Now its going to be loud, but if you dont have that back pressure then you know its just the cat., but if you still have it, then you know it maybe a bent or stuck exhaust valve....

Testimonial: "Thank you very much for your hasty response. I will disconnect the exhaust and run it. Let's hope this will prove to be a faulty cat conv. "

The EGR valve on my 2003 ford escape blew out on my way to work (a hole the size of quarter in the side of it). I brought it for replacement and the mechanic tells me it's probably due to the cat....

If the cat was plugged that bad than you would have noticed a sever lack of power when driving.

I would replace the EGR valve first and see what happens.

After you have made the repairs go back to Advance Auto and have them remove this stored trouble code .Most places will remove them from your computer for free.

My 2003 Ford Escape (3.0 V-6)was running fine when I noticed a hissing noise from the exhaust. A flex pipe right before the catalytic converter had a serious leak in it. I have 75,000 miles on it. It drove...

You have to get the emissions readings done on it and find out if all of the emissions controls are doing their job properly. If something is causing clogging, it will show up during this test. (rich emissions) you would either have to repair the main cause or trade it in. Good Luck.

I have a 2003 ford escape. Check engine light came and my code showed P1405 code. Replaced EGR valve and sensor. Code does not show up on pocket scanner, but the escape stills loses power and will barely...

On alot of cars you must erase the code after repairs, the code is pending in the memory and can still run bad till cleared.try clearing the code

How do you replace the EGR on a 2002 ford escape? How do you replace spark plugs on a 2002 ford escape v6?

To replace the the spark plugs on the V6, you'll need to remove the intake manifold. There is a coil on top of each plug (COP). Check this website for info:

The same link will also show the R&R of the EGR valve.
