My Ford 500 (106k miles)had a crank no start issue a couple days ago. I put the gas peddle to the floor to turn off the injectors, turned the key, and the vehicle starts now no problem. Now there is a strange rattling/rasping type noise whenever the vehicle is started again. I replaced the spark plugs and checked the cylinders to see if there were any leaks but there appears to be none. Any ideas what this could be?

Sounds like the timing belt tensioner. I have that problem. Rattles at low rpm, goes away as you acceralerate. Looking to have timing belts changed and tensioners replaced.

you should have the pcm scanned for dtc's... probably a bad crank or cam sensor

Does not sound right, the engine oil capacity for your engine is 5.7 liters with the oil filter. To add 5 quarts, your would have been running with no oil for who knows how long. As for your engine running the way it is, with no engine oil means a complete over hall. The ruff idle is caused by worn cam shaft and the crank shaft bearing must be worn to, and the possibility of spinning a bearing is high. Sorry for the bad news but with the information you gave me, this is the what i can come up with.
Good luck and hope there is a better out come.

Check the distributor and timing order to make sure it has not jumped at all from a timing malfunction.
