Should work if there is no theft guards inside the doors which would make a slim Jim useless. Pay a locksmith to open the door. They have some specialized tools to get the door open without damaging anything.

The rod that connect the latch to the handle has become disconnected. the door panel needs to come off. You should see a rod hanging helplessly away from the actual latch mechanism. Using the point that the rod is still attached to as a center point... rotate the rod and look for the plastic connector for the rod to reconnect. This will be a small plastic part with a clip that secures the rod in the anchor point.

You can use a wire hanger with a hook bent onto the end fairly easily if you slide it down the window and try to feel around to hook onto the lock mechanism. It may take a bit of patience, but I got into my 2000 with not too much trouble. Then do what I did immediately afterwards - get another key cut to keep in your wallet...
