Having trouble starting my oldsmobile alero. It won't start and the dash lights won't even come on now.

Chances are you got water inside the fuse box or a wiring harness connection.
You may have to start tracing circuits to find out what is getting power and what is not.

the previous owner had the same problem with my alero, he had to go get a new security button put in or something like that

Turn the key forward and try to start the car. If it does not start, look for a light on the dash that says SECURITY. If you see that light, that is the problem.

If it does not start, leave the key forward 2 clicks for 10 minutes, NO LESS. Roll the key back for 5 seconds and then try to start it.

ticking noise in dash could be faulty bcm or body control module.it could be going bad.have car code scan to see if the bcm theft security system has trouble code.

You might have a bad coolant temperature sensor. If it was defective, it would cause that. As fas as the dash lights, I would say you are correct. It could be a bad ground or a loose connection.

Im not sure if you got your alero to start yet. But heres an Idea, The alero comes with a security feature that if you have 3 failed starts it activates. a good sign of this is while having the key turned does your security light flash on the dash. if so turn the key forward with out starting the car and leave it on for 10 minutes and then the security light on the dash should stop flashing. Now turn the key off and remove key stick key backin and turn over to start car. Did your car start ??

start by checking for spark, then check fuel pressure and injector signal, so you need a spark tester and noid light

Probably the coil pack.
