On 2004 gmc envoy slt pulled in garage dash says in drive council shifter says in park truck won't start truck rolls back and forth shifter button can't push in please help

Since you can push it. It would be the shifter cable(clips broke or just came disconnected) or the bracket holding the cable on either end of it. Most likely at the shifter. I have seen them broke at the transmission. But it was a fault of the person trying to remove it from the bracket.

Need directions how to replace neutral safety switch.

Crawl under the jeep, on the drivers side. under the drivers door. On the transmission under where you can see the shifter cable connecting to it is the switch you want to replace. Pop the cable off the end of the bracket. 15 mm remove the bracket nut. Pry the bracket off. Notice how the bracket is on the stud. Remove the bolts from the switch 10 or 13 mm. Pry off the switch, lube up(grease) the stud and line up the switch with the stud(has two flat spots or pins) and re install .

1996 GMC Jimmy w/automatic transmission

First, carefully disconnect the cable end from the shift arm on the transmission (pry gently with a screw driver between the arm and the cable), then take out the staple looking thing from the cable. Then squeeze the tabs on the side of the cable and slide it towards the rear of the vehicle. Take out the two bolts that hold the bracket on.

8. SEE FIGURE 2 (Below)
Connect car battery. Apply hand brake. Move stick to NEUTR AL position. Press foot on brake pedal. Start engine. If starter fails to operate, Neutral Safety switch must be adjusted. Adjustment is made with a long-bladed Phillips screwdriver through the "Street" gate. This screw is directly in front of the st ick. Turn the screw about 1/2 turn past the point where starter operates. (STICK MUST REMAIN IN "NEUTRAL" WHILE ADJUSTMENT IS MADE). Starter should operate ONLY when stick is in PARK or NEUTRAL position.

How to get shifter cable and bracket to remove transmission pan

Most of these take a T-30 torx socket coming down from the top on the drivers side of the transmission. I believe there is another bracket in the way that makes it kind of tough but it can be done. Sometimes a 1" or 3" extension helps. If you feel up there you will feel the bolt heads. They are round and feel like they have a hole in the top of them.
