I have a 1996 firebird that has been running good, no real problems, but tonight i put it in reverse and now it wont go out of reverse. It will still shift to drive and 2nd, 3rd, but even in park it goes...

Check on the transmission to see if the shift linkage is working properly. The linkage may have just come off. Sometimes the grommets wear out.

Shifter is erratic. wont start in park. drives forward when shifted to reverse, sometimes drives forward when in park. sometimes reverse is neutral (which is good so it will start!!!) what is going on???

It sounds like the linkage at the transmission has come loose. Have someone get inside and move the shift lever from gear to gear so you can see where the linkage is on your transmission. You'll have to climb under ypou truck to see this, on the drivers side. check to see that all the bolts are tight. Your switch that allows you truck to start in Park or Neutral is located there.

Change the fluid and filter. If i remember correctly reverse and third gear share the same band and clutch pack. Some transmissions you could tighten the band on it.

I have a 06 ford focus with automatic transmission when it gets cold reverse don't work until you drive it about 2 miles or so drive always works good when it is above 40 reverse works good also

okay your transmission is either bad or something is wrong with the gearing. Sometimes the teeth that make the gears turn chip and it slips and wont let you in reverse. But when they warm up the metal expands and allows your vehicle to go into reverse. Hope this helps ;)

Won't go out of 4 wheel drive

No unless the auto locking hubs disengage the 4 wheel drive system stays in, our patrol sometimes disengages in forward motion but more often than not we have to reverse. hope this helps

Shift problems in 95 chrysler concorde transmission

Sorry but if your reverse is having trouble you will probably have to replace or rebuild tranny like me. Otherwise try new filter and fluid first.
