Hi, I hope I can help you, but need some info.
1.Did you replace the actual thermostat or just the housing ?( your statement says "just put in thermostat housing". If the car has no thermostat, the coolant never has a chance to stay in the radiator long enough to cool down and eventually boil over.
2. If the thermostat was replaced, check to make sure the correct temperature rated thermostat was installed and it was not installed upside down.
3. You mentioned "water started boiling". Was the cooling system filled only with water? Using just water only, and not an actual engine coolant, should never be done, as water will reach a boiling point faster than a coolant and will also corrode the inside metallic parts of the cooling system.
4. Is there any visible signs of leaks in the cooling system when it's running? Any puddles forming under the car? If yes, the leaks need to be addressed before trying to repair anything else in the system. I hope this helps, and please write back, as I will check back for any updates you may have written in on this.

I need to change my thermostat

Pretty simple to do, make sure the engine is cold. Drain half of the coolant from the radiator, no need to let it all go, unless it is all due to be replaced. The thermostat is located under the thermostat housing which can be found at the engine end of the outlet water hose(top hose). The housing will only be held in by 2 bolts. Remove the air cleaner housing to get easy access. Take out 2 bolts, pop of thermostat housing and you will see the thermostat, pull it out.

You can see if it is faulty simply by dropping it into a container of boiled water. If the thermostat is closed at cold it should open when in the boiled water and close when removed and cool. If it is open when cold, don't bother to test it, toss it over your shoulder in the bin straight away.

Clean up any old gasket and discard.Put new thermostat in if needed, use a new gasket or gasket goo to form a new gasket. Return housing, bolt down to torque spec. Replace air cleaner , top hose and add coolant. Too easy, wont take hardly any time at all.

Can a person buy a bad new thermostat

Yes, it's been known to happen. Can test it by putting in a pan of hot water on the stove. Just before the water starts to boil thermostat should start opening. When the water does boil, thermostat should be fully open.

My 2001 La Sabre coolant fans will not kick on... Recently overheated and checked the relays - what else could it be?

Maybe your thermostat is bad, stuck inclosed....this would boil water before the thermostat and not get to the temp control for the fan, also, ckk bottomhose for collapse.Have you ever changed hoses? Ever put in new thermostat?. They do go bad.

My escort overheated so added water then i tried to start the car but it wont start, its cranks but it wont start

need add add antifreeze half antifreeze and water to raise coolant boiling point. replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.wait until engine cool then try starting it up.depends on how long you drove car when engine over heated.if you turn off engine soon as it over heated no harm done.if you kept on driving and engine die of lack of cooling, and car wont crank you could have blown head gasket warped or cracked cylinder head.

My 2002 mazda 626 was overheating. Replaced the radiator (cracked) and coolant tank (leaking). Still overheating. Its the thermostat or the water pump right? Which should I check first? Where how and what...

I would check the thermostat. It should be in the housing that the upper radiator hose connects to. I would take the thermostat and put it in a pan of water on a stove, if the thermostat doesn't start to open before the water begins a rolling boil, the thermostat is probably stuck closed.

Car is still overheating after new thermostat, new housing.....

bleed air out cooling system. put half antifreeze and half water .if you got too much water .it willl cause engine to over heat. antifreeze raise boiling point .220 degrees it wont boil away . water will evaporate 212 degrees.it will boil away .causing low coolant problems and over heating.

97 chevy blazer thermosat

Thermostat stuck, and temp relay shut down to protect engine.
Everyhing seems to be working properly except the thermostat.
Yes, tolerances in the engine are tight, so thermal expansion could have caused further damage to your cylinders or pistons ETC.
If this happens again before you have a chance to replace the thermostat... squeeze the upper radiator hose repeatedly and the thermostat may free up.
Reccomendation is replace the thermostat.

Overheatin cady 1999

hello jaanutno, did you check to make certain the thermostat is operating? there may also be a weep hole on the water pump and you will see or feel some moisture there, you can remove the thermostat and boil it on the stove to see if it works once it reaches temp if it doesnt open you need a thermostat if it does work put the thermostat housing back together without the thermostst and start the vehicle to see if it will circulate one more thing to check is that the rad cap is proper for the radiator (how many psi) hope this gets you on the road good luck
