Some fault codes require multiple stop/start cycles (operating the vehicle) before it will throw a check engine light. When the code says it is pending, the ECU has detected sensor values beyond the norm. It will monitor the systems and if the problem doesn't go away (the ECU continues to see erroneous values) it will confirm the code and turn on the check engine light.

P0420 is catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1)
P0440 is evaporative emission control system malfunction
P0441 is evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow

P0440 and P0441 are refering to the NVLD pump. It is in the rear on the right side up near the fuel tank. P0344 is your cam position sensor on the rear (drivers side) of the cylinder head. The P0440 and 441 are probably why the check engine light is on and the 344 was stored from a previous event. Either way they are two different and unrelated problems. The NVLD (natural vacuum leak detection) pump is an emission item with no effect of the way it runs however it will keep the engine light on. The cam sensor will keep it from starting or intermittently run bad and not necessarily turn the light on. Both parts are easy to change. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: engine light on code is po440
P0440 Fuel tank vapor emission problem.
Could be as simple as a leaky gas cap.....or a missing gas cap.
Have you purchased gas and left the engine running as you filled it?
That will turn on the light too.
The P0440 is one of the most common codes and pops on the dash of 50% of cars on the road as they get older on a weekly basis.
An extremely small vapor leak on the fuel system will pop this code on.
Most of the time.....this code cannot be fixed......the answer is to buy a cheap OBD2 code reader and remove the code yourself every time it pops on........and on the 50% of cars with it......it shows up about 2 times a week.
When the engine light is on,you will loose 20% of gas mileage and has 20% higher emissions.....so turn it out!
Some cars will not go into overdrive with this light on.
