Why my 1995 Mitsubishi eclipse start when I turn the key. There is no clicking sound. the steering wheel locks up but I can get passed that. Also at first the lights would turn on but not any more.

I had a few ideas maybe a short in the wires or the cables came lose on the battery?

SOURCE: Losing power to the fuel pump

well that sounds like a relay. if your car is an automatic, double check than you replaced the ASD and fuel pump relays and not the trans control relay.
if its not the relay, its probably the ECU(PCM).

SOURCE: my car won't turn over

does this car have a safety device that won't let you start the engine unless the clutch is pushed in???
if so that little switch on the clutch pedal could be faulty.

SOURCE: 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse will not idle, all else OK, just repl bat

I can only offer these few ideas.

  1. The TP throttle position sensors for this year group fail often Pin 1 to Pin 4 resistance should be 3.6 to 6.3 ohms but you need to remove the two 7mm bolts that hold this sensor on the front side of the throttle body, then rotate the two bolstered center and see a change in resistance from low to high. If the resistance remains fixed, the sensor is rusted out and must be replaced.
  2. The IAC motor is mounted on th LH side (driver's) of the throttle body. It should make a clicking sound when the key is turned from Lock to Run. Pin 2 to Pin 1, Pin 2 to Pin 3, Pin 5 to Pin 4, and finally Pin 5 to Pin 6 must all have continuity at 38 to 52 ohms.
  3. Check for any vacuum leaks.
  4. Remove clean and check EGR.
  5. If this is a Cranks but will not start problem, check the owners manual for Theft Deterant UNLOCK proceedure. If there is power at the rear fuel pump relay coil and no power at the MFI/ASD front relay coil and no spark, then its the security system.

Key won't turn

hi there,

Your car has a steering lock that clicks into place when you take the car key out of the ignition. This prevents thieves from being able to steer your car if they hotwire it. Sometimes the wheel is turned to just the right place to keep your key from being able to disengage that steering wheel lock. All you have to do is turn the wheel a little bit in either direction while you turn they key. and your done!

Car has gone into freeze mode. Can't turn key, start engine, change gear or turn wheel. Have tried with foot on the break but still no go.

it sounds like you locked the steering wheel. usually trying to turn the wheel a little in a clockwise motion while turning the key to the start/run position works.

How do i replace the ignition switch?

Removal
Remove steering wheel and combination switch. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG and
COMBINATION SWITCH . Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector. Using a chisel and screwdriver,
back out bolts at steering lock bracket. Insert key into steering lock cylinder, and turn to ACC position. Using a
small Phillips screwdriver, push cylinder lock pin inward. On all models, remove ignition switch, steering lock
and bracket.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW steering lock bracket and bolts. Temporarily install ignition
switch and steering lock cylinder onto steering column. Ensure ignition switch functions normally, then tighten
steering lock cylinder bolts. Tighten lock bolts until heads twist off. To complete installation, reverse removal
procedure.

Steering Lock

Most likely the steering components are in a bind. I would try and move the steering wheel around while trying to turn the key. You can try to turn the wheel ever so slightly to unbind the wheel and then you should be able to turn the key.

Thank you for your question, and please let me know if I can help with anything else.

My Car will not start, the key wont turn at all

THe tumblers in the ignition cylinder are probably worn therefore won't alow you to turn the key. Try inserting the key and jiggle it around while you are trying to start it. Sometimes it will work.
