YOU HAVE TO TAKE [ EXTRA PRECAUTION ] WITH ENGINE OFF CHECK THE GAS LINES THAT LEADS TO THE JETS SOME TIMES THE HOSES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE JETS KIND SPLIT AND THAT CAN COUSE A SLOW LEAK,
EXAMPLE--WHEN YOU DRIVE THE CAR YOU WON'T SMELL THE GAS CUASE IT EVAPORATES SO IS NOT THERE,THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN SMELL THE GAS IS WHEN YOU GO HOME AND PARK AND WHAT EVER PRESSURE IS IN THE GAS LINE THE GAS WILL ESCAPE OVER NIGHT VERY SLOW,YOU CAN TRY THIS-
WHEN YOU GET HOME LET THE CAR SET FOR 1 HOURS THEN CHECK JETS FOR WET SPOTS.

check your carburetor, it's not maintaining the correct air fuel intake

AIR FILTER, OR POSSIBLE IF APPLICABLE BAD INJECTORS.

the slow idle jet could be blocked if it is a carb same thing happened to me on a vw and mini 998 i stripped the carb and sprayed with a cleaner and lube after it worked fine for months after i find a petrol additive to lube the upper cylinders and valves helps on older cars

i would assume that your engine still runs on carburetor. have your primary jets(in the carb) replaced. normal carb primary/secondary jetting for 1.6cc engine is 105/135. primary jets basically is responsible to acceleration, secondary jets are for speeding.

if you have a carburator then you have a blocked idle jet, simple job unscrew **** dirt out clean jet hole through, replace, (change or fit fuel filter to prevent it happening again. )
to tune is simple replace jet start motor and warm up . when at operating temp turn jet out and then in till motor runs rough then screw back out til motor smooth out , and runs sweet, if it cuts out when slowing car down (while driving) screw need to come out a slight bit more

Fix the overheating problem first.Could just be a faulty coolant temperature sensor.
Then tackle the charging system.
Maybe a bad cable or alternator on the way out.
