Can a blown cigarette lighter fuse make the check engine light come on

Research what else is on the circuit. In the old days when cars had more than one cigarret lighter I discovered that a penny fits in the socket perfectly and would cause a short.

My first guess would be a blown fuse for the tail lights and cigarette lighter. Check the rear window lock out button on the window switch.

The lighter socket or the element.
Check the element for burn marks and the socket for debris blocking the contacts.

check all of your fuses ,a blown fuse might be the problem, the cigarette lighter usually is on the accessories fuse as is your interior courtesy light the fuse box is probably under the bonnet but there may be one under the dash as well....hope this helps ....cheers

is the only thing not working the cigarette lighter? the fuse that operates it is usually the accessories fuse, it normally operates the interior light as well, which fuse box have you checked,there is most likely one under the bonnet & there also may be one under the dash as well, it might well be that the cigarette lighter element is the problem,try another lighter....hope this helps....cheers

you have to replace hole lighter.

check the fuse first ,look up cigarette lighter fuses first i bet that is blown ,cos that fuse is part of cigertte lighter and ur stereo aas well also check ur heater fuses as well

If you have a 12v test light you can test each fuse in the fuse box. Connect the test light cable to a good ground. Turn ignition to on/run position and using the test light probe, touch one side of a fuse and then the other side. Test light should light on both sides of the fuse. If it only lights on one side of a fuse then that fuse is blown. It says the amp rating on the fuse. Check all fuses, as there could be more than one fuse blown. Replace fuses with the same rating as the blown fuse. If you don't have a test light, you can get one at any auto parts store or even WalMart has them. Shouldn't be more than 4 or 5 dollars. Two years later and you solved my dead cigarette lighter. manual says fuse 35--but it did not say to check 38 on the left fuse box. Thanks--blown fuse and everything works. Thanks

To test if the cig lighter works buy a 12volt test light at radio shack and test the center of the cig lighter to see if you get power there.if you don't then there is a blown fuse somewhere check the fuses in the engine compartment?
