SOURCE: How to replace a A/T over run clutch solenoid on a 2006 Nissan frontier truck

what is wrong with the trans? i would start with checking your coolant in radiator and overflow bottle. let truck cool off and check coolant. make sure its nice and clean and green in color. not milky white. start there and let me know. we have seen radiator issues where coolant mixes with trans fluid and destroys trans. other than that those transmissions are pretty bullet proof. if your coolant is milky color, then that is a big problem. you will need new trans and radiator replaced. and to answer your question, the solenoid pack is inside of the transmission bolted to the valve body. you will need to open the unit from the bottom and replace solenoid pack.start with checking coolant first.

Can the idle air control be tested

Idle Air Control Valve

Print

OPERATION

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve adjusts the engine idle speed. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. The valve is controlled by a duty cycle signal from the PCM and allows air to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed.
Do not attempt to clean the IAC valve. Carburetor tune-up cleaners or any type of solvent cleaners will damage the internal components of the valve.

TESTING

See Figure 1

0900c152801e4967.jpg enlarge_icon.gifenlarge_tooltip.gif

Fig. Fig. 1: The IAC can be monitored with an appropriate and Data-stream capable scan tool

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the IAC valve.
  3. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the valve.

Due to the diode in the solenoid, place the ohmmeter positive lead on the VPWR terminal and the negative lead on the ISC terminal.
  1. Resistance should be 6-13 ohms.
  2. If resistance is not within specification, the valve may be faulty.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the IAC solenoid connector.
  3. Remove the 2 retaining bolts and remove the IAC solenoid and gasket from the throttle body.
  4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Use a new gasket and tighten the retaining bolts to 71-97 inch lbs. (8-11 Nm).

If scraping is necessary to remove old gasket material, be careful not to damage the IAC solenoid or the throttle body gasket surfaces or drop material into the throttle body.

Will not idle

Poster has not provided enough information to diagnose vehicle. What is the engine size?Have any repairs been attempted. Has engine computer been scanned for code or is check engine lamp on? Will engine run if throttle is held partially open? It is always necessary to perform a thorough visual inspection of all underhood components before performing any indepth diagnosis .Check all visible vacuum hoses and connectors for cracks or loose connections, check wiring connectors for same.Check large hose from throttle body to air cleaner box for looseness ,paying particular attention to clamps at mass air flow sensor. If no problem found on visual inspect.,locate idle control solenoid. It is on throttle body and has a 2- wire connector.lightly tap on solenoid body with a small soft hammer or medium screwdriver handle. If vehicle will now idle normally.remove solenoid and clean or replace(best to replace).TIP.An inexpensive engine stethoscope can be used to locate vacuum leaks at hard to see areas.listen for excessive hissing noise.

1991 Lumina 3.1 usually idles at 800rpm, but lately has been idling at 1300 to 1700 rpm.

Hello Friend:

Sir Sounds like your Idle Stop Solenoid is Damaged or Your Throttle Position Sensor is Faulty.

Besure to Check the Connections to make sure you have no Corrosion or a Loose Connection.

Sounds more like the Idle Stop Solenoid than your Throttle position Sensor.

Go and Buy one there around $25-$35.00,In case your not sure of the Location it will help you identify the Idle Stop Solenoid on your Vehicle.

I hope this has Helped you and gets you running like it Should. Please let me Know how my Solution helped you by voting and a testamony. Thank You for using FixYa From: d_hubbs

After sitting, hard to start, seems not to be getting fuel. you can spray starting fluid and it starts, must run at higher than normal idle for a few minutes, then will idle normally.

OPERATION The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the throttle body on. This valve allows air to bypass the throttle plate. The amount of air is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal. Fig. 1: Cleanable IAC valve — 5.0L engine version shown, others similar 88484g22.gif

  1. Make sure the ignition key is OFF.
  2. Disconnect the air control valve.
  3. Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the terminals of the valve solenoid. NOTE: Due to the diode in the solenoid, place the ohmmeter positive lead on the VPWR pin and the negative lead on the ISC pin.
  4. If the resistance is not 7–13 ohms, replace the air control valve.

Are you talking about the Idle Stop Switch? if so it is located on the carburetor, above the throttle linkage. If you are talking about the Idle Stop Solenoid then it is located on the right side of the carburetor near the throttle linkage.

If this helps please rate me.
