2000 Alero ran out of gas and now wont start

My 2000 Alero ran out of gas. I added about 5 gallons and it will not start. The fuel pump is running properly and the engine sounds like it is trying to start but won't.

You might have a clogged fuel filter when you run a car out of gas it sucks all the junk out of the bottom of the talk and the filter will catch all of that

More than likely the Fuel Filter because it ran out of gas, but if that doesn't help try this: (I've been copy and pasting it because I was so frustrated with my experience. Don't wish it on anyone. Even if it doesn't work, it won't cost you anything to try this.)

While the key is in "on" position and your security light is blinking, it is probably your "Passlock" security device acting up. Very common in these years for GM cars. To test if this is it, simply turn your key forward (to "on" position) until light stops blinking and eventually turns off (right around 10 minutes). Then, turn key back off, and then try to restart it. My Alero did this just yesterday and I learned this trick as I was pricing out a new fuel pump. If this was your problem, I recommend taking it to a remote starter installer and have them by-pass the passlock system permanently. This should cost anywhere from $40-$100, but is much better than a new fuel pump and filter cost.
-note: I recommend not getting it by-passed until it happens a second time (which it may not), just don't forget the temporary fix!

My car ran out of gas, now it will not start

If high miles, it may be a fuel pump. Fuel pumps usually go when gasoline is low and pump gets too warm. This may mimic running out of gas when there is a gallon or two of gas still left to draw but needle reads empty. Have someone put their ear to the gas tank while you turn on the ignition switch. the pump should run for 2-10 seconds with key on and not cranking.

If you don't hear the pump run, then investigate further for a failed pump.

Ran out of gas and now it won't start after adding 5 gallons

the fuel pump is cooled by gas so if u run it low alot or {OUT} it can burn it up

2009 chevy aveo ran out of gas now it wont crank

No crank to a mechanic means the starter motor doesn't spin the engine over, is this what you mean? Or do you mean the engine cranks over but will not fire up and run? If it is the latter have you added at least 3 gallons of gas to the tank to make sure the electric fuel pump inside the tank can properly prime? If not do that, also you can spray starting fluid into the engine engine air intake pipe after adding the 3 gallons and see if that gets it going. If it still will not start you have burned up the fuel pump and you will need to drop the fuel tank and replace the pump, remember the pump is cooled and lubricated by the gasoline it runs in, so when you run low on fuel or out you can very quickly severely damage the small electric fuel pump. Never let the gas gauge level go below 1/8 tank to prevent premature fuel pump failure.

Ran out of gas.. that nite below feezin temps. car froze. allowed car to thaw. added gas... wont start. no oil leak. no water in oil. was pushed out of road wen car ran out of gas.. is there a fuel reset...

No ressting to do. You need to remove all air from the fuel lines. Running out of gas in any fuel injected vehicle is a big no no for it is so expensive to get back running right. Add 5 gallons of fuel to get good priming pressure first of all
Turn the ignition key on for 5 secondes and turn it off for ten secocds. Do this step 5 time to bring up fuel pressure to the engine
Next try and start it
If it does not start release the air pressurized in the fuel line at the fuel rail above the engine. It looks like a tire air fill valve. Use a rag to catch the gas that spews out as you bleed the air out
Now turn the igition key on and off again for 5 times as stated above and proceed to start the engine once more
Good luck

I ran out of gas in my 2000 alero. I put 3 gallons of gas in it and it still wont start

More than likely a failed fuel pump.. they really don't like to be low on fuel as that is what keeps them cool. Have someone crank the car while you slap the fuel tank and listen for the buzz of the pump.

RAN OUT OF GAS PUT 2 GALLONS IN TURNS OVER HOWEVER IT WONT START

Yes. All cars have fuel filters. The most common location is under the chassis by the fuel filler. Look for a little plastic cylinder with a pair of hoses going to it.

Ran out of gas......

Sounds like fuel pump burned out when you ran out of gas. probably ran dry for about 20 sec till engine quit. Check for power to fuel pump in tank. Most likely fuel pump will need replacement . Hope this helps
