Is it a Vitara or a Sidekick
Sidekick is USA /Canada, Vitara is rest of world name for same car. as is Geo Tracker.(usa/can)
5sp, just sold 3 like that....
my guess, is car will not crank and start in gear?
with clutch to the floor ,? and car ties to move, doing so?
that is the cable bad, a $25 part. and very comon failure.
or does wont go mean exactly that. the shifter gets netural
for all gears. that is bad shifter parts a $5 fix.
means car starts in gear, but will not move ever.
that means a false neutral, is selected.

link to cable cause. (sold in all stores)"auto"
http://www.fixkick.com/tranny/clutch/clutch-on-kick.html

link to , shifter, $5 plastic failure.
same page, top click part 27 bad.
only suzuki (defunct in USA) sells it.

    let me elaborate:
"wont go in to gear." (all 6 gears?)
    so if you key off
trying all gears. 1 by 1.
    you
    start in gear 1st
clutch to floor, tune key , it cranks &starts
release clutch, pedal and car fails to move.?
    all brakes off sure.
    try each gear, repeat.
if car will not move in all 6 gears (R is 6th)
then the cable is bad, easy fix.

if some gears work or others not
then part 27 is bad, in some cases
part 27 (cheap plastic) turns to dust
and seems missing, well it is.
in the worst cases 27 can stop all gears from working, but if you remove the shifter
in all cases, i can shift using a screw driver, there below 27 ID part.
that proves the part 27 is bad, for 100% sure.

you might not know what this means.
    but vast others do, http://www.fixkick.com/tranny/rails.JPG

    27 fails 99% time
rare, part 26 snaps. (extreme miles and rough driver)

How much tranny fluid and what type does the automatic take also, what do you put in the transfer case?

2.8 litres of dexron II or III ATF. Transfer case takes API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil

5 sp man trans. when accelerating, trans hangs up

sounds like you have a worn syncronizer. unless it gets really bad, you can keep driving like that, be gentle with those shifts and you shouldnt have any problems. changing the fluid may help prolong the life. if it gets bad, the transmission will have to be rebuilt.

I have a 1995 nissan pickup the transmission have a metal to metal. 5 sp manual 4th gear is but all other are ruff, with u let out on the clutch.

A lack of gear oil in the transfer case or gear box will make shifting and gears become ruff then destroyed within a few hundered miles, sometimes much much less. Unless this truck has had a history of bad shifting technique I have found these trucks and gears to be extremely reliable. If the clutch makes a loud wirring noise when engaged and disengaged ther may be a bearing problem. Check the U joints in the driveline. Bad U joints would usualy result in a lot of gear box twisting and jerking when starting out but diminishes with speed.

1995 suzuki sidekick 16 valve

Check throtle position sensor... one section closes a set of contacts when you take your foot off the accelerator... this is sent back to the engine control computer which adjust the timing to insure the engine stays @ ~ 800 rpm. It's easy to set with just a simple multimeter...
