If the tensioner pulley is “shredding belts”. You might want to look into why. Most of the time belt length has nothing to do with the tensioner shredding the belt.
The KIA Optima uses a 12 volt charging system with an alternating generator and a frame-grounded starting battery. The alternator is a smaller unit with an internal voltage regulator. The bushings, windings and regulator may wear out and fail, requiring replacement. The average backyard mechanic can change the alternator in a KIA in about an hour. Things You'll Need 1.Socket set 2.Floor jack 3.Lug wrench 4.Screwdrivers 5.Crowbar Instructions: 1.Disconnect the battery's positive terminal bolt by turning it counterclockwise. Set it away from the terminal. 2.Jack up the Optima and remove the front passenger side wheel by turning the lug nuts counterclockwise using the lug wrench. Set the wheel and tire aside. 3.Remove or fold aside the wheel well cover by turning the small screws counterclockwise and gently pulling it from the retainer clips. This will give access to the engine. 4.Push on the belt tension pulley until the belt loosens, then pull the belt off of the alternator's pulley wheel. The belt can be left hanging in place. 5.Turn the alternator's bolts in a counterclockwise direction using the socket wrench. A smaller wrench head may be required for the tight space. 6.Pull the alternator free by wiggling it out of the mount. 7.Position the new alternator into the mount and secure the bolts that hold it in place. 8.Push on the belt tension pulley to give enough slack to wrap the belt around the alternator's pulley wheel. 9.Restore the wheel well cover by pushing it onto the clips and securing the screws. 10.Replace the wheel by tightening the lug nuts in a clockwise direction, alternating the pressure of opposing bolts. This sets the wheel better than tightening all of the nuts in a circle. 11.Lower the Optima onto the ground, and reconnect the battery.
Just follow these steps to remove and replace the alternator. You will need this tools, Serpentine belt tool, Battery wrench, Lug wrench, Floor jack, Jack stand, Socket set,
Open the hood, locate the serpentine belt tensioner and move the tensioner off the serpentine belt with the serpentine belt tool. Slip the belt off the tensioner pulley with your other hand and then slowly move the tensioner back to its normal position. You can pinpoint the location of the belt tensioner by following the belt routing diagram, printed on the fan shroud.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery with the battery wrench. Push the cable end away from the battery so it doesn't make contact during the repair.
Turn the lug nuts on the right-front wheel counterclockwise until they're loose enough for hand removal, but leave them on for now.
Lift the right-front end with the floor jack and support it on a jack stand placed underneath the right-front frame. Remove the lug nuts and right-front wheel by hand and set them aside.
Slip the serpentine belt off the alternator pulley by hand. You can access the alternator through the wheel well. Unplug the wiring harness from the alternator by hand and remove the ground strap with your socket set.
Remove the alternator mounting bolts with your socket set. Lift the alternator out of the engine well, through the wheel well. Insert the new alternator in reverse of how you removed the old one.
Thread the alternator mounting bolt through the new alternator and into the alternator bracket by hand. Tighten the bolts with your socket set.
Attach the alternator ground strap with your socket set. Plug the alternator wiring harness in by hand.
Slip the serpentine belt over the new alternator pulley. Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts by hand. Lower the Taurus of the jack stand with the floor jack.
Move the belt tensioner aside again and place the belt on the tensioner pulley with your free hand. Hold the belt on the pulley and slowly move the tensioner back to its normal position. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
I don't think you'll find a free belt diagram for the 2002 Cadillac Seville, but you don't need one.
If you have a serpentine belt, just lead the belt around the pulleys until the last one is the tensioner.
Note, that one can match the smooth outer part of the belt with the smooth pulley, and the grooved part of the belt with the grooved pulley, one by one, alternating until you're at the tensioner.
It really is that easy. That's why you won't find a free belt diagram for it, because it's assumed that one can do this without it.
The tentioner should keep the belt at the right tention. Are you sure its the belt? I had some squeaking in my 05' RSX and replaced the Tentioner Pulley and the squeaking went away. Maybe this could be the same case. Hope this helps.
I don't Have a manual for this. But in most cases with A serpentine belt the belt trencher is automatic and could be Warren out other then that look see if a pulley bearing could be getting bad .it is also possible you got a defective belt Hope this helps.
remove the negative battery cable from the battery. loosen the serpentine belt by using an open-end box wrench and pull the tensionpulley back (it's spring loaded, so be careful) by the bolt, remove the belt from the alternator and the tensionpulley, then slowly let the tensionpulley loose. remove the nuts holding the wires on to the alternator. remove the bolts from the alternator mount, and remove the alternator. put the new one on and hand tighten all of the bolts. then tighten them down with a wrench. put the belt back on the alternator pulley and make sure it's on all of the other pulleys and wheels except the tension. use the wrench again and pull the pulley towards you with your right hand and put the belt under the pulley with your left, and let the pulley go back. reconnect the wires to the alternator and then the battery. **warning** make sure that the battery is fully charged before you start the car with the new alternator, or you'll cause "alternator death" and void your warranty.
Disconnect battery, disconnect altenator wire harness. Remove bolts and pull out altenator. When reinstalling new altenator, there should be an adjustable pulley called tensioner pulley that will either have to be pulled up or pushed down in order to put belt back on.
If you heard a click when you cranked it, that's usually a dead battery. But, you need to check the oil level. I've had 2 RSX's that jumped time because the oil level dropped too low.
The tensioner on the timing chain is hydraulically controlled, if the oil level drops the tensioner looses tension and the chain jumps time. Its an extensive and expensive repair.
