SOURCE: I need to replace the fuel pump in my 1985 Chevy S10 Pickup.

EXACT PROCEDURE ! Please Rate Me Fairly for this!! Thank you And Good Luck !!

ELECTRIC PUMP

REMOVAL

  1. Before servicing the fuel pump the fuel system pressure must be relieved. See: Fuel Pressure Release
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise the car on a hoist.
  4. Remove the fuel tank. See Fuel Tank / Service and Repair.
  5. Remove the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly by turning the cam lock ring counterclockwise. Lift assembly from the fuel tank.
  6. Pull the fuel pump up into the attaching hose while pulling outward away from the bottom support. Take care to prevent damage to the rubber insulator and strainer during removal. After the pump assembly is clear of the bottom support, pull the pump assembly out of the rubber connector for removal. NOTE: Inspect the fuel pump attaching hose for any signs of deterioration. Also check the rubber sound insulator at the bottom of the pump. Replace damaged or deteriorated parts.
INSTALLATION
  1. Push the fuel pump assembly into the attaching hose.
  2. Position the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly into the fuel tank. Use a new "O" ring seal. NOTE: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict the flow of fuel. Also, verify that the strainer does not block the full travel of the float arm.
  3. Install cam lock over the assembly and lock by turning clockwise.
  4. Reinstall fuel tank.
MECHANICAL PUMP

REMOVAL and INSTALLATION

NOTE: To ease pump installation, rotate the camshaft so the camshaft eccentric is out of the way of the fuel pump rocker arm.

  1. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump.
  2. Remove fuel pump mounting bolts and the fuel pump.
  3. Remove all gasket material from the pump and block gasket surfaces. Apply sealer to both sides of new gasket.
  4. Position gasket on pump flange and hold pump in position against its mounting surface. Make sure rocker arm is riding on camshaft eccentric.
  5. Press pump tight against its mounting. Install retaining screws and tighten them alternately.
  6. Connect fuel lines. Then operate engine and check for leaks.

SOURCE: having problems with chevy s10 replaced fuel pump

Check the cable that goes from your battery to the fuse box the relay that is clicking is on. Check for lose bolts or corrosion of the contacts or something like that. If the relay is clicking it sounds to me like it is a voltage issue going to the relay.

I had this problem.I removed the fuel pressure regulator and it was full of carbon.Remove it very carefully as to not damage any seals.Remove as much carbon as you can and reinstall. This should solve your problem.

SOURCE: 2002 chevy impala has loss of power. will not go

I would look into the catalytic converter too. I just went through this same symptoms. The engine will sputter and run rough. Drive a few miles at night and see if the front exhaust pipe, right behind the radiator, is glowing. That keyed me in. There is a special service to fix certain models for 01 and 02 which is sort of a recall but not exactly. The dealer just fixed it for free. The chevy customer service number is 1-800-630-2438, they can check and see if you Vin number is on the recall. Your local dealer may not know about it so call the number first and make sure you have the Vin, at least the last 8 of it, when you call.

92 Chevy S10, had a fuelpump put in,drive it a couple miles,park it,it smokes underneath,(somewhere around the driver's side back wheel)seems like there's less power,wat do u think it might be?

I wouldn't even drive it, till you figure out the problem. If coming from wheel, check the brakes and parking brake. Is there any oil in the rear end? I can't rule out wheel bearing. I can't tell, at the moment if bearing is sealed or gets lube from rear-end?

S10 chevy when driving sputters and pops loses power will not pull on a HILL

have exhaust shop check your catalytic converter ,for free,if you have more than 100k mile,if that turns good, check your fuel pressure,if pressure low ,first buy fuel filter if that, didn't help, then you may need fuel pump, assuming you already checked the 12 volt goes to pump( bad or dirty ground wire to pump causes low voltage to pump, therefor low pressure under load)

First you need to determine what it lost. A motor that has good compression on all cylinders also needs two things...spark at the spark plugs, and fuel. You can listen to see if the fuel pump "cycles" when you first turn the key to run. It will whirl for a couple of seconds, that is normal. You will need to remove a spark plug to check for spark, but a proper spark tester is more accurate. You can see by what I'm saying that it isn't as easy as some people think. Ignition modules (located under the distibutor cap) are common for a spark issue, and fuel pumps are common for fuel issues, but there are other components involved as well. Good luck!!!

89 chevy s10 blazer puff smoke out tailpipe when 1st started

A puff of smoke when you start up indicates worn valve seals. That's why all your work didn't fix the problem and it doesn't show a code. It's a pain in the --- job that requires some specialized tools so I guess it depends on how bad it bugs you,if oyu want to fix it.

its probally not the relay but it is in the large fuse box under the hood , a rectangular grey or black plastic block. try banging the fuel tank 3 or 4 times fairly hard then try to start the truck. repeat this a couple of times if you truck starts then its the fuel pump its self. chevy s are known for there fuel pumps
