How To Install Repair Replace Parking Brake Release CableHandle ... or replace a broken or worn out parking brake release cable handle.
It sounds like The switch on brake pedal is stuck in.look up in the foot well a little way up you will see a switch that pushes onto brake pedal when the brake pedal is pushed it releases a little button that activates lights.if button is sticking lights will stay on. Give a squirt of wd40 and give button a few pushes then check lights hope this helps
Your brake lights stay on due to a small rubber pad about the side of a nickel, which is supposed to be stuck in a small hole about 6 inches above your brake pedal, way up where you have to stick your head under the dashboard to see it, with a flash light. if you look up there & you can see that it is missing, you need a new one from the dealer. if the rubber pad is intact, then the switch that it touches (plunger-type switch) is bad. That is the brake light activation switch. Usually it's the rubber plug that has disintegrated.
If this has a foot pedal type brake try pulling the pedal up with your foot as you release it.If not you need to find the light actuator on the e-brake assembly mayby a wire fell off or switch fell out.ive seen this before on other vehicles
you should hear a click from the solenoid when you apply the brakes. If your brake lights don't work, your shift lock release won't either. There is a bypass method for emergencies in your owner manual. Check fuse for brake lights. And switch on brake pedal
Is it a "stick" in the console between the driver and passenger seats, or is it a pedal you push down? If it is in the center console, try starting the car, putting it from park into NEUTRAL with your foot on the brake, and pull up on the stick a little while pushing in the button. If the button goes in, push the handle back down, put the car back into park, and take your foot off the brake. I'm not real familiar with the Pacifica, so a description of the parking brake would help.
There is a brake light switch down on the brake pedal arm its like a push button switch when you press the brake pedal down the button goes in on the switch making the brake lights come on and when you release the brake pedal the button is supposed to come back out if it sticks in the brake lights will stay on even when your foot is off the brake pedal so all you have to do is buy the brake switch and either replace it yourself or have a shop replace it and your lights should go off thus no killing of your battery.
test the release solenoid for the park interlock pin, 1st make sure it has 12 volts at the connector 2 the solenoid when the brake pedal is pushed and if it does make sure it works and is not sticking, this is most likely a sticking solenoid that releases the pin to let u out of park
