Car has driven like a champ for months. only issues were knock sensor code and had to turn the key a few times to get it to start, but when it did it started quickly and ran like a top. just the other day i was driving and smelled electrical burn inside the car while noticing my stereo was acting funny then cut out. at this point i was very low on gas and barely made it to a station where i put in a quarter tank, but then it wouldn't start like the battery was dead. i got a jump and it started right away so i drove to my destination with no problems. a few hours later i left for home and it was fine until it began to slowly but surely lose power while i was on the highway and eventually just died. no overheating indicated. got another jump and it started and ran great in idle for a minute. tried to drive away... no power, wants to stall and eventually even died in idle. sputtered and backfired a little. replaced fuel filter. same thing. alternator? wiring harness? fuel pump? gasket?

Yes I can help you. Change your coolant temperature sensor and all will be well. Only use Nissan, Bosch, or NGK part.

Replace the fuel filter. That should fix the problem. You can follow the fuel line back to the fuel tank to find it. It is usually in the middle of the vehicle near the edge of the vehicle, like right under the passengers or drivers door.

Fuel injected or carb? Make sure fuel line itself is clear. Some pumps are designed to self regulate (carb systems) some continually pump and a psi regulator sends back the excess fuel back to the tank (fuel inj systems) If the line is obstructed then pump can't deliver fuel fulltime.
If you think pump is not on consistent, try running a dedicated wire through a switch directly to the pump. If it works then you are looking for an electrical fault going to pump. Good luck.

Try disconnecting the alternator for a few minutes.
It can run on just the battery that long.
It is possible the new alternator is producing too many spikes that disrupt the car's electronics.
