first thing to do is to have the alternator checked out as the fuse blowing may indicate an internal short and therefore the battery is not being charged ( 3 starts and needs a jump)
If the alternator passes the bench test but is not charging on the truck, you have a problem in the wiring between the alternator and the battery, or the alternator and the key switch.
alternator could be overcharging, cause of this is a bad voltage regulator, it should be internally in the alternator, (a way to tell this is to check your battery to see if it looks like its swelled, or pull alternator off and have it tested). if voltage regulator is bad it's more cost effective to just replace the alternator. but if not then good possibility your gauge has gone out.
CODE 12 STAND BY MEMORY POWER LOST.WHAT IT SAYING ECM LOSING MEMORY BECAUSE LACK OF POWER.POSSIBLE CAUSE TO YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE OLD WORN OUT BATTERY CABLES CAUSING POOR GROUND AND HIGH RESISTANCE IN CHARGING CIRCUIT.YOU COULD HAVE WRONG AMP ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WRONG COLD CRANKING AMPS.MAKE SURE ALTERNATOR BELT TIGHT AND CHECK ALTERNATOR BATTERY FEED WIRE AND ALTERNATOR FIELD WIRES FOR DAMAGE OR LOOSE CONNECTIONS.CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE. WITH ENGINE RUNNING ALTERNATOR OUT PUT SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS IF NOT ALTERNATOR NOT CHARGING.
no it should last a long time unless you have a short or a large sterio whitch pulls a lot of amps or you could have a bad battery or dirty terminals @ the battery could use more info also alternator could just have gone bad how many have you gone thru?
Your alternator isn't putting 14 volts out to the battery. Check the stator wire on the alternator and the 3 wire plug make sure there is no gap on any of the alternator connectors and they are on VERY firm!
Hook up a multimeter inside your car and watch the battery voltage! if under 14volt you got an alternator problem!
THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR IS INSIDE THE PCM AND NOT THE ALTERNATOR. IF YOU KEEP BURNING UP THE ALTERNATOR THEN THE REGULATOR IS OVER CHARGING. YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE PCM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PCM IS LOCATED UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER.
Must of the time this can be caused by a faulty voltage regulator. If the battery works during daytime and during nigh time or heavy power loads fail, it could be faulty diodes. Both cases require removing alternator from vehicle and replacing the damaged parts.
