The repair and your current problem might not be related and perhaps not even the spanner light is related.

If the repair was only a short time ago you should give the repairer a call in the first instance in case the problem is related.

An engine piston does not develop a hole for no reason. Pistons are strong and reliable and something else must have happened, something fairly serious, to have caused a hole.

Either the ingress of foreign matter due to bad or incorrect maintenance, something within the engine broke or maybe serious overheating within the cylinder occurred.
Replacing the piston without discovering what caused the trouble in the first place (and curing it) would be a very bad repair.

If it was serious overheating that caused the hole, the overheating could have been caused by preignition or a faulty engine management system and in that case your present problem might be connected to the original cause, though your current problem could be a faulty starter motor or immobiliser.

To discover the exact meaning of the spanner light you should read your vehicle handbook.

2000 Nissan maxima cranks but won't start after repair work done on engine by changing piston rings

heavy engine work goes like this. NO ENGINE TOLD or VIN.
after assembled. we
  1. crank it after fuel pump fuse /relay pulled.
  2. and measure oil pressure. first, if fail stop fix
  3. then check for top end oiling. if not stop. fix.
  4. then compression tests. all cylinders above 150psi and near equal.
  5. fuse back (pump) crank
  6. it if fail test spark. on all spark plugs
  7. if fail see if IMMO dash light failng, if is spark will never happed,. nor fuel
  8. ok spark is good
  9. next is spray test fuel , ok runs for second stalls.
  10. now engine starts. (if luckly there are other show stoppers (cats melted, EGR stuck open etc.,
  11. if dead still add 5% throttle cranked, this hides dead IAC valve. (stuck closed)
  12. to clear flooding crank 100 % WOT throttle .

Yellow spanner light on gwm florid 2010 1.5.VVT

Yellow spanner is suggesting it is time for your service. The Orange 'outline on an engine' light is the one to worry about, that is the Engine Check Light.

Hi All Please help, what is the capacity of oil in a ford ranger 2.2 2014 base line? Also after the oil filter and change the oil light comes on. I used 7L of oil. Feedback will be appreciated

My best research shows this engine holds only 3.8 liters. If the engine is overfilled, the crank and connecting rods will be submerged in oil and can aerate air into the oil as it turns, causing low oil pressure, causing the light. If it is high enough to touch the piston bottoms, engine damage can result.

Car ran fine put gas in it came home shut it off went to leave and it wont start

Does the engine turn over? If it does, then check to see if the check engine light comes on when you turn the key to the on position. If it doesn't, then the PCM is not receiving power. Check the orange power wire usually located by the battery to make sure it isn't damaged. Repair if necessary. If the check engine light comes on when the key is turned to on then crank the engine while observing the light. Does it go out while cranking? If it doesn't, then a problem with the crank sensor signal is indicated. If it does go out then the problem might be fuel related. Disconnect the air cleaner hose to the throttle body. Have someone crank the engine over while opening the throttle slightly. Spray starting fluid into the engine to see if it tries to start. If it does then a fuel related problem is indicated.
CAUTION : Wear safety glasses during this procedure. Be careful around moving engine parts.

The check engine light (spanner) came on and I saw a message saying that oil life is less that 15%. I quickly went and serviced the car but the spanner sign did no go. Please advise me on what to do.

Place the key into the #2 position (do not start engine). With the oil remaining light showing on the odometer, press and hold reset post for 10 seconds until it starts blinking, then let go. Press it again for 5 seconds and it should reset back to 100%.

My car is showing a red light for 'oil'. However there is enough oil. There is also a 'knock' sound whenever the car travels from 100km. Whet could this could be and what is the solution? Thanks.

hi this sounds like the big ends are on there way out, these are the parts that connect the piston conrods to the engine crank, when the bearing wear this causes a gap between the conrod connection to the crank and that will give you the knocking noise, the low oil pressure is also an affect of this problem as the pressure is reduced as the engine is running, there are 2 ways to cure this both unfortunatley are expensive, first, complete engine change, which would be better to do, or a repair or replacement of the conrod bearings, dependent on how much they have warn or even how much the crank has warn if they are really bad then it would be a replacement of all the parts...hope this helps please vote thanks

Hi, honda 2006 model showing the sign of a spanner on the screen

I just checked on that one, they said to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, and the lights will reset? I have heard this but never had to try it. Your spanner is scheduled maint and the oil light you know. And they both should be resettable. Hope this helps.
