Be sure the bolts on the backing plate are removed and then put a slide hammer on the lug nuts and pull the bearing out, it is on the end of the shaft in the hub just behind the lug nuts.

SOURCE: I need to remove my rear axle shaft

These rear ends don't use c-clips on the axle shafts to remove the axles.

It must be done by removing the axle at the backing plate area.

I need the torque for thermostat housing on my 1993 cadillac fleetwood

Till they are snug which means until your fingers cant tighten them anymore. ...then turn on the car and watch for leaks...no leaks...your good...if it leaks...tighten 1/8 of a turn equally to all housing bolts. Repeat looking for leaks. If it has a gasket (which Im sure it should) the gasket alone should be enough to fill the void when the bolts are snug.

Where are the clips located in a 2001 astro rear axle?

You mean the clips that holds the axle shafts in the axle housing? You need to take the cover off the rear axle, now theres a small bolt in the carrier housing that holds the large pin in, remove the small bolt and push the pin out, then push the axle shaft inwards and the clip ( it really looks like a small horseshoe) will fall out, if it doesnt fall out, you will need to remove it, then the axle shaft will pull out. To install its the same way, put the shaft all the way in, install the clip, and pull out to seat it. then install the large pin, but make sure you line up the hole for the bolt.

Need to remove rear axle

OK I did this recently, lift and support rear, remove wheels, place drain tray under centre of axel, remove rear cover (dont worry you dont have to touch the bearings or settings) take the truck out of park and select neutral. turn the large gear (crownwheel) until you see one 10 mm bolt head, unscrew this bolt, turn the crownwheel a bit more and drop out the 1/2" pin this bolt held in. you can now tap the hubs in a little and slide out a horseshoe clip that retains the shaft, pull out the shaft and change the dust shield (they can be had after market cheaply) slide the shaft back in, do other side, re fit the horseshoe clips and pull the shafts out until the clip is inside its recess, slide in the 1/2" pin, you might need to move the little gears that run on this pin with a bit of stiff wire or little finger untill the pin slides home, align the bolt hile with a small screwdriver and fit 10 mm bolt, new gasket, fit cover and new oil, fit brakes etc and wheels. get back if you get stuck.

How do i remove old axel all bolts rings etc are removed but wont

Not sure about the Voyager , but I have only seen three ways a shortshaft is held in. 1... a roll pin through the axle that must be pushed out.
2.... a plate that bolts over the shaft where it goes into the transmission.

3.... most common is a spring clip ring around the end of the splined shaft. If your new axle has one , that is the system you have. axle should just pull out with a jerking motion. I had a kia that was impossible to pull out with bare hands. I used a piece of small rope tied around the axle , and yanked on it with my hammer. It poped out slick as snot

REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING ONTO BRAKE SHOES NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX

Jack up vehicle and support on stands. Remove wheels. Remove differential cover . Locate and remove lock pin that holds cross shaft in. Slide cross shaft out. Push axle inward to release axle c clip. Remove axle and pry out old seal. Install new seal with proper tool.Add some lube to the seal lip to aid axle intallation. Revese removal procedure. This is for a "c" type axle.
Another type has 4 nuts attaching a retainer plate to the backing plate behind the axle flange. In this case the 4 nuts are removed and the axle will come out. This may require a little effort. I think that you have a "c" type axle in your vehicle. Hope this helps. Moe

Rear end

Did you pull the pin at differential just to be sure? If it's non-"C" clips, you'll need a slidehammer attached to hub, over studs & use wheel nuts to hold it on there. Get er done !
